Glasgow Uni didn't teach me any basic spelling or grammar either. I already had that from primary school.

If that's what folk are learning at Caley then perhaps the chap's got a point.

There's not much to be said really except grow up. You're probably the only intellectual I "know" that would waste his time on a forum going on about yoghurts going to university.

If your IQ was as blinding as you think it is then you would probably realise you are a total spanner.

I fail to see where I brought spelling into my comment! So I can only assume this is a personal attack on my ability to spell things properly, my god that hurt so much I might just cry.

i got 2 unconditionals for Glasgow, but after a quick look round decided not to go there because i'd never be able to hack the attitude problem most people have, what with having to work my way through uni on my own (my parents couldnt afford to buy me a flat in hillhead).

incidently, i've worked at Glasgow uni before and most of the students there need a quick thwack with the reality stick...

I'm just reacting to a percieved attack on a new member, based on his spelling/typing.

If the smilie ment that you weren't really having a go, then fine, I take my comment back. I was just saying that to take a dig at someone's spelling, when yours is not immaculate, is a bit bent.

My maw works at cally and tells me that part of the problem is the government pushing to get more people access to universities. Since industry in general isn't so strong in the country they reckon the way forward is to develop a service based economy. The first step is to educate everyone to a very high standard so we can offer things that people want(simplified obviously). The way that this is being done is by trying to get more people into university. Now this is probably meant to make people that may not be able to afford it be able to but in reality all it is doing is giving universities like cally a target number of people they MUST take on to their degree courses. Being a relatively new university they cannot compete for the top grade students as other unis like glasgow and strathclyde have had aaaaages to build up a reputation. So the upshot is they are forced to have slightly lower entrance requirements. The quality of teaching in most departments is actually fine. Though with a cally degree you may not get the healthy self satisfied glow that comes with ill informed snobbery. What what!? *snort*
