| Save Studio 24!! Most people here have to got to be familiar with the club Studio 24 who over the years have been holding gigs for bands both touring and local as well as being the home to many nightclubs. The Mission, Dogma, DKY, Dust.. at some point in your life if you go out in Edinburgh you've probably been the Studio 24.
Well not for long if the current news is anything to go by Studio 24 will be closing their doors for the last time after pressure from local residents. You can read the official story here (you have to be registered).
To read the article and discussion about it without having to register just goto the alt_edinburgh livejournal community here
We have to unite and do something about this! The loss of Studio 24 is a major blow to alternative culture in Edinburgh. The Mission and Dogma lose their homes as well as many a gig promoter losing a great and supportive venue for example Zealous and Cold Dead Hands to name just 2.
So how can you help?
Write to your mp of course! Tell them you are unhappy with the situation, but please remember to keep it polite we don't want to live up to the stereotypes the media seems to be so quick to give us.
You can write to your mp here
And savestudio24.com will be up very soon with more information about what's going on and how you can help.
We've got to fight this! |

| Re: Save Studio 24!! Gotta say, I've played gigs at studio 24 and it is quite possibly one of the worst venues I have ever been in.
Maybe it's better as a nightclub, but for gigs it sucks......
It's a bummer that the clubs and promoters will have to find somewhere else, but i'm sure that The Mission, Dogma, Dunc Zealous and the others will. Hopefully somewhere that doesn't feel like being in an empty warehouse.
Have faith my friend. It could all work out for the best. |

| Re: Save Studio 24!! Oh I've been in far worse than Studio 24.. especially in Edinburgh.
And there's a few clubs that probably won't find anywhere else, especially the smaller ones. Studio 24 is an important part of the scene, if it goes it'll be a loss but I'd like to think I done something to try and save it before it did.
Too many venues in Edinburgh are being closed down for housing. |

| Re: Save Studio 24!! I think this is a battle that can't be won, unfortunately. It's gone too far already, agreements have been made, and so on.
Time to deal with the loss of a venue and start looking for alternatives, I reckon. The Mission's moved before, it'll move again.

| Re: Save Studio 24!! Studio24 don't seem to think so.
Everythings being kept quite hush hush the now.. but apparently the mission and mission jnr will both be fine.
As I stated before though... I'd rather it went with a fight than quietly. And I'm not the only one to think this |

| Re: Save Studio 24!! Fair enough then, and good luck to you all.
Have to say though, my money is on it closing after Hogmanay. I can't see it being given any favour over the property developers around there.

| Re: Save Studio 24!! The council isn't on the side of the properly developers.. because one of the property developers didn't follow the planning brief that they HAD to sound proof the flats.
Studio24 has always been very cooperative when dealing with the council, the term "jumping through hoops" springs to mind. Sadly it's the little drunken idiots who don't even get into the mission jnr that are causing the problem and perhaps the lack of policing down there (which in fairness has been improving over the last month or so.. but not quickly enough) |

| Re: Save Studio 24!! I know Studio 24 have put an awful lot of effort into doing everything asked of them, and that one of the local property developments didn't incorporate adequate soundproofing... but unfortunately that's not likely to make much difference. Property investors smell money around there, and it rests on the club disappearing. In my opinion, the best Studio 24 can hope for is a settlement package in exchange for complying quickly and quietly... and maybe favourable rates on an alternative location.
I hope I'm wrong, for the sake of the club staff and operators.

| Re: Save Studio 24!! Studio 24 deserves to be saved. The Mission is what the Catty should be like. A fucking proper Metal club in a place that resembles a sewer.
Even if Studio 24 does close down completly, I hope the Mission can carry on in another venue. It's better then any metal club or night I've ever been to in Glasgow and it's be a shame to lose it.
