"Bookmark" feature?

I have no idea how feasible this is but would there be any possibility of introducing a "bookmark" feature where users could mark a particular point in a thread to come back to later?

It would come in handy for the more lively threads that can often have several pages of posts added to them between one visit and the next.

Just a thought, like.

I find that 'view first unread' works well - just click on the thread title instead of the last page, then V.F.U and bingo!

Unless you just started reading a long thread, didn't finish it and plan to return later. Then a bookmark feature would be useful.

You mean like the 'subscribe to this thread' option under 'thread tools' at the top of every thread?

Not sure - does that give you the option to return to the same point of the thread you stopped reading at?

"Subscribe To Thread" is handy in that it can be used with folders to store things in your usercp usefully but no it doesn't store a specific point in a thread.

"View First Unread" is good but can suffer from an obsolete third-party cookie bug if you share a computer or log in/out. Can usually be fixed by manually clearing all atnation.com & related domain cookies.

Bookmarking a post within a thread isn't out of the realms of possibility and a not bad idea if anyone finds/makes a plug-in for it

You could right-click on the little number in the top-right corner of every post, and choose “Add to bookmarks…” (or “Favorites” if you will).

They have a feature like this built into the somethig awful forums which do ralso run on vbulletin (albeit a very hacked version) so it can't be overly difficult to implement here, no?

Also, when you load the thread from the button there, the background colour on rea dposts is slightly darker

nope, I can't see it being that difficult at all for anyone who wants to give it a go.

And I'd be willing to help with getting it tested & installed on altnation if I can when it's ready so just give me a shout then
