I think threads like this are a complete waste of time.
I'm more for dealing with stuff and if the general populace of the site think we've been too harsh for whatever reason, tough shit, it's done, move on.

I think you're right, if folk were just banned or whatever in the aftermath of the Gary Glitter thing then people would've accepted it.

Opening it up for debate over countless pages gets boring and lets people over-react to the initial issue and lets others chip in with their wee bit even though they probably haven't read the threads.

It's all about some of the comments you find in "introduce yourself" threads.

Are 99% of the comments not just a "hello" and whatnot? Can't the mods just delete any posts that aren't? Can't the introduce yourself threads not be locked so only the original poster and mods can post in them?

I've already considered that tighter restriction might not be the best choice and it's not just my disillusionment with the site. There's quite a few people not impressed with the current situation just the same as there's quite a few happy with it and some not bothered.

I was under the impression that we're actually discussing the overall attitude of some people throughout the forum, not simply restricted to introduce yourself.
