| What if the pain doesn't go away? Just wanted to ask. I got my tongue pierced some hours ago and it's really hurting. I'm not sensitive at all, as I've had other things pierced and gotten some tattoos without pain. But this is really fucking hurting. Can it be dangerous? |

| Re: What if the pain doesn't go away? Did you get a big enough bar to allow for the swelling?

Some piercings just hurt a lot more than others, my vertical lobe was sore all the time for a good week afterwards. |

| Re: What if the pain doesn't go away? my tongue killed me for about 2 weeks after getting it done. tongues dont like being pierced and they swell alot. i lived on milkshakes and tomato soup through a straw for 2 weeks. lost a stone in weight. i also could barely talk without wincing in pain and had a massivly overpronounced lisp. very handy when 3 days after getting it done i had to do a talk on the theraputic benefits of animals. it came out as 'le scheraputic benefitsh of animalsh. and i still cant roll my Rs
its unfortunatly incredibly normal to be in a helluva lot of pain for a couple of weeks with tongue piercings. try and take some ibuprofen to help with the swelling. it can also take up to a year to fully heal. i still get alot of pain if i drink orange juice, ive had mine done since november, which is fairly normal.
enjoy

| Re: What if the pain doesn't go away? My tongue piercing was unbearably painful for about a week, and took a full year to completely heal i.e. was never sore or sensitive, and I have a high pain tolerance. |

| Re: What if the pain doesn't go away? You got it pierced a few hours ago and are expecting it not to hurt...? You just had a needle rammed through a rather large muscle...of course it's going to be sore for a while.
As it seems that the bar is long enough, and I assume you're not bleeding excessively or your tongue is swollen so you can't breathe, just suck on plenty of ice/ice cream, rinse well with salt water/alcohol-free mouthwash after eating/smoking and wait it out. It should be pretty much swelling-free and non-painful after 2 weeks, but some people take longer or shorter. Remember to keep well hydrated, especially at night, and don't eat spicy food (or spaghetti...the results are amusing yet really fucking annoying). Drink plenty of soup, and soft foods like well-cooked pasta and fruit are good to keep energy up (but try not have too acidic fruit cos it'll sting). Keep an eye on the swelling, and although it's very rare it's possible it could impede your ability to breathe - get to A&E right away if that happens!
You'll be fine, though |
