At worst, it's a passing cheeky remark by someone she's never met, is never likely to meet, and probably never noticed up to that point and never will again, so I hardly think it was deserving of being called out by the big boss as the prime example of an arsehole AltNation user.

I usually defend the magazine pieces if I think they are ok, the fact it was my pal/burd didn't make a huge amount of difference (she's more than capable of defending herself) but as a newish user posting I really thought the 5th degree wasn't required.

Plus we all know that music is subjective and if I asked anyone to name the top 5 of any genre you'd get a lot of different lists,

Music taste is subjective, Music genre classifications less so. The point, which seems to have gone over your head, was that missunderscoretress2003 (I read back other the thread in question again) was using the term hardcore to refer to bands which weren't hardcore, they were metal bands. I, as a long-time fan of hardcore music resent and am bothered by the fact that the term has been co-opted into meaninglessness by metal bands, and that kids nowadays just have no clue what it actually is, hence my comment. Also, it was actually Lev that brought it up, I just thought her reaction to his comment was very stand-offish, and so I chipped my tuppenceworth in too.

Oh and the TOP 5 BANDS thing is a reference to an ancient honesty thread in which Rab BJ claimed that liking death metal meant he wasn't a wigga, as black people don't like death metal. Not that mrs_tress knew that (though I did mention it in the first post), but I thought it was obviously a joke anyway.

usually cause people havn't listened to every band in the world. Personally I thought you were just being a complete dick in that thread especially, as it was a live review of a couple of local bands not music hardcore 101 still would hav ebeen nice if you'd answered her questions since she answered you while explaining her opinion.

Point me in the direction of what questions she asked which I didn't answer. Read over the thread and you'll see there weren't any. If she wanted me to tell her what hardcore actually was, or why I didn't think any of those bands in question are/were hardcore I'd have been willing to do so, but she didn't, instead she went on the defensive, skirted the issue, then insinuated that my opinion was invalid because I had never written a gig review for AltNation. But yeah, I'm the arsehole.

Forgive me for actually thinking I'd like to make this place more welcoming to people. I've obviously been doing something wrong the last few years bothering my arse.

Have you ever been on any other forum, ever, that is not like this one, ie. older users ripping into newer ones a bit and general arguing and nastiness? I haven't. It's part of the beauty of the internet! It shows us that everyone is a dick.

The 'being wide to newer users turns them off' argument has been waging on this forum for about 4 years now, Forbes, and if you think the odd wee cheeky comment is more off-putting than the insular, bland in-jokes, 20 pages of gibbering about a night out, or anything like that then I strongly disagree. These are the reasons why I don't post as much anymore, I can say that for certain.

I suppose I could have picked on other people but thems the breaks and yes as I've also said it wasn't a great tattoo but I guess I apply my old mums rules mostly. If you can't say something nice don't say anything...though I tend to change it to If you can't say something nice, at least make it constructive.

I'd argue that genres aren't as clean cut as you make out.

I'm pretty sure she asked you what you thought the top 5 were and you skirted it but we could probably both disect that thread to pieces and get no where. Course if you'd been decent in the first place and just said, I don't think those bands are hardcore but really metal then you might have got a better response. You could have offered an opinion rather than what you did. I suppose we have different way of appoaching things.

Yeah there are a good few technical forums that are pretty decent and don't have people being dicks for a cheep laugh. I'm not saying it should never happen I'd jsut like it to happen a little less.

Bland injoke? Like Top 5 honesty thread . I know what you mean though but you got to start some place and the tattoo forum doesn't have in-jokes, 20 pages of going out gibberish. I guess we have to focus on making small parts better and that should up the rest of the quality, plus you were a good part of those 20 pages of gibbering a few years ago when you were a main stay clubber here along with mr injoke hoody etc.

Anyway I'm just on the wind up now.
