Tattoos do go through fashions. there is a bit of a resurgence of old school style tattoos at the mo.

I'm falling into the 'it's about what a tattoo means to you' camp. Everyone has their own taste, interests and opinions. Tattoos are just a permenant way of marking them on your body

To be fair, there's a difference between "I think this tattoo is rubbish" and "This tattoo looks like it was done by a blind child".

As far as tattoo trends go, stars are just the latest "in thing". Before the stars it was the tribal arse hats/tramp-stamps etc.. Winnie the Pooh/Tigger & Taz tattoos.

Anyone wanna guess the next one?

Don't think stars are even that current a trend - as Barry says, at the moment it the trend does seem to be for "old-school" tattoos like traditional sailor motifs, swallows, pin up girls, etc. I reckon traditional Japanese will be the next big "fad" as I've started to notice a lot more people showing interest in this type of work , or at least work heavily influenced by it, done (if it isn't already).

I would say thanks to variying ifluences (tv/celebrities/internet) custom work is becoming more and more popular. more people are starting to steer away from flash, although not really enough to do away with flash altogether. another popular theme at the mo is names across the wrist and initials behind the ear (could just be a paisley thing) and almost every day we get asked if we tattoo on hands.

I was just gonna say that my comments are purely based on discussions about tattoos with other enthusiasts & artists and you'd probably get a better idea from an actual artist. Like him. ^ Up there. Aye him.

Art is pretty much all a mix of the objective and the subjective, whether people like to think so or not.

You can think of tattoos in the same way.

Only if you care about passing fads in tattoo art - also have a Japanese-inspired sleeve on the go as well as shit-loads of tribal and other stuff that's been "in vogue" and then not over recent years.
