Re: My tongue piercings gone weird

Did you have a sore throat before the tongue swelled up? It's probably inflammation because of a viral infection causing the 'wound' to be become more swollen and irritated. It doesn't look like an infection but I can't tell for definite from the history and picture. If it viral it'll clear up by itself, but if there are signs of infection (redness, pain, green or yellow pus extreme swelling and heat) you'll probably need antibiotics. Salt soaks are a great idea but only after meals - not more than 3-4 times a day. Keeping yourself generally well with lots of fluids and rest will help you get over a viral infection. Keep an eye out for red, swollen, pus-y tonsils, which may indicate a local bacterial infection. Don't over clean it as that will only exaccerbate the inflammation. Don't use alcohol-based mouthwash, as it's too drying.

Um, can't think of much else. Hope it's feeling better soon.

Cheers I left the piercing out for 24 hours then only put it in at night for another few days. It's still a tiny bit pinchy but it's almost entirely healed.
