| tongue piercings so, I fancy a couple of off centre tongue piercings, one on each side of my tongue. I have the full week off work this week, might not get them done this week though as I've made boozing / night out plans and don't intend to do both. My imune system / piercings I doubt would thank me.
If anyone's doing them it will be John in nirvana, no one's going to change my mind on a piercer, I trust the man a lot so don't try kids
I know about the risk of teeth chipping etc and have done my research on all the associated risks etc.
I'm interesting on people's experiences on getting their tongues pierced though. One one end of the scale we have Rikkichops who says it was pretty sore and a pain in the arse really, and on the other we have my friend Christine who came into work the same day she got it done and the day after, no lisping and no eating soup for days and days like you hear in horor stories.
Also, how much did your tongue swell / how long were you in discomfort eating for? Anyone damaged their teeth with their tongue piercings?
Obviously the pain is a subjective thing to the individual and I don't suppose there's much point asking as everyone's different.
Feel free to divulge your tongue piercing stories though, good or bad. |

| Re: tongue piercings I've had no problems with mine at all. The first day or 2 of getting them done is a pain tho, I found it hard to eat anything other than liquids. The swelling wasn't overly bad, did have a slight lisp for about a week or so. Since then it's been pretty fine all round.

| Re: tongue piercings My tongue swole quite a bit when I had my first one done, spent a week spooning cold soup into my mouth and just swallowing because chewing was a nightmare. After the first week all was well, no lisp or anything. When I got the second one done whilst I still had the first I had less swelling and lived on popcorn chicken for a week.
The reason I took mine out were because my teeth chipped, enamel was comming off my teeth and my gums started to receed. Needless to say, my dentist went apeshit.

| Re: tongue piercings I thought the worst part about the whole process was the week afterward while you're not used to it being there, thinking it's a bit of food while your eating and biting the bloody thing. That hurts. It's a good excuse to eat nothing but ice-cream and slush-puppies for a week though.
I managed to get a raspberry seed stuck inside the piercing once as wll, that was none to pleasant.
Apart from that, no problems - I do keep a plastic ball on instead of a metal one, I have the tooth-chipping fear. |

| Re: tongue piercings My first one was fine, it was the second one that was a bitch and didn't heal properly. I ended up taking mine out because they were rubbing against my front teeth.

| Re: tongue piercings I got mine pierced during my lunch hour and had curry for my dinner that night, never had one bit of bother healing it at all. Used arnica tablets for the swelling and they worked a treat, barely any swelling (about a day if i remember right) and no missing my solids, just took my time chewing and cutting things into teeny bits. First time eating noodles was an experience though!

| Re: tongue piercings I've always kind of fancied it but i'm way too much of a pussy to be able to stand the point where you're waiting for the guy to put it through your tongue. Bad nerves, me.
Plus, biting your tongue is always pretty sore so it must be agony to get it pierced.

I didnt think it was that bad

| Re: tongue piercings mine was awful. it was pretty sore getting it pierced but thats coz Barry did it and it was his first tongue so it was fairly slow.
the actual healing was hellish. its one piercing i would never get again. i lived on tomato soup and milkshake fo about 2 weeks and lost over a stone in weight. it took atleast about 8 or 9 months before i could drink orange juice and stuff like that without pain. ive not chipped teeth at all, all ive done is take a wee bit of enamel off one tooth and my dentist couldnt even see it so it cant be that bad.

| Re: tongue piercings Take a couple of strong ibruprofen (the strongest you can get over the counter are 400's i think), an hour or so before you get your tongue pierced, & have a sugary drink like coke or irn bru (not the diet ones ) cause it helps if you get nervous/faint etc. Take the ibruprofen for a couple of days afterwards too & it should help to keep any swelling to a minimum as they're an anti-inflammatory. Don't know about the teeth chipping thing, but as Kenny said, you can get plastic bars if you're worried about chipping your teeth etc.

| Re: tongue piercings I swll up like a bitch on all my piercings so I had a really bad time with my tongue. I had trouble sleeping and eating and it was so uncomfortable for about a week, but the swelling does go down quicker than in other piercings. As for the pain of getting it done I hardly felt it at all. I eventually took it out becuase the feeling of metal in my mouth all the time started to really irritate me. I have a visible scar on the top of my tongue still.
I never chipped or damaged my teeth with my tongue bar, but I did chip one of my teeth twice on my centre lip piercing (which is the main reason I took it out) |

| Re: tongue piercings I got mine done so long ago they still did the numbing spray on the tongue thing so mine wasn't actually sore to get pierced as i didn't feel it. The week after was hell on earth, it swelled up a lot and was really sore. I retired it after about 7 or 8 years as periodically it would get a bit inflamed and sore, and I just got fucking fed up with it if I'm honest, decided I was too old for it anyway and took it out.
I do miss it sometimes, I was the first person i knew to get it done and it was quite controversial when I was at school (before everyone and their aunt had piercings), but i couldn't put myself through that horrible week again. |

| Re: tongue piercings I had no problem with mine, It bled a lot when I had it done but thats just me, all my piercings have bled a lot as have my tattoo's. I ate shortly after having it done, it healed quickly and I havent had any problems since, had it for five years now. I will be getting another one added in soon too, just something I fancy, also keen to get another couple of lip piercings although that might cause major problems with work so might have to rethink those. Still definately going for a second tongue one. |
