Is it just me or is there a shockingly high level of artists about now.

Indeed, was thinking that the other day.

Totally spoiled for choice, there's loads of folk who are really good just now.

Still a phenonemal amount of shite though, alas.

Re: Custom Inc or Bizarre Ink?

I feel really bad that my first post is gonnae kind of be a diss.

I would not recommend Biz Ink, I'm afraid.

Got a tat done there years back (cannae remember who by, or if I do I'm not saying) and the outline is so deep that the colour lasted 6 months before it went off and started to look like a bruise.

Went back to ask for a touch up (ooer missus) and they wanted to charge me double what the tat itself had cost.

Luckily I got myself down to Billy Hooper on Leith Walk, who did the retouch for free. I should have just gone there in the first place! His ink has lasted over 10 years, though it will never be as good as if they'd just pressed a little less hard!

Does anybody know if Billy Hooper is still on the go? He was an artisan and a legend....

    Define years back?

I've been going to Spacey @ Bizarre Ink for the last 13 years and he's never put a needle wrong on me. Unfortunately he is only one guy, and there have been a number of other artists working in the studio at various points, some fantastic, some less so.

Was the touch up going to be by the same artist or a different one in the studio?

Billy is still going, he's roughly about 60 now and has been tattooing for forever I've only ever been in the studio once, at the age of about 16... fortunately he slung me out on my ear, which was the best thing that could've happened, otherwise I'd have ended up with the coloured flash shite that I picked out, LOL!

Another +1 for Irezumi. I got one of my sleeves done there and I wouldn't go anywhere else. Do it.

I get done by Max at Old Town Tattoo in Edinburgh. He's a fab guy and already booked well into 2009 due to him being in hiiiiigh demand and doing a lot of work in Europe. He's currently working through my boyfriends angel/devil back piece as well. Pics here!

Talking Re: Custom Inc or Bizarre Ink?

Billy Hooper is ageless, man. I am so glad he's silll on the go.

But the old tats looked a bit strange... they were all sundamaged and well... the phraze "don't get a £5 tat on your tit" kinda springs to mind.

Went to Tribe 3 last week and had some lovely stuff done, and I think I'm happy with it now.

The inks they use now are so much nicer, and I managed to get things prettied up really nicely. I'm not sure about Bepanthen cream, but am using it anyway, and the scabs arenae that bad, just not so photogenic yet.

Got some coloured stars and a graphic copied from an Alasdair Gray book, then a course of rehab and makeover for my wee snake.

About 10-ish years... An artist wasn't discussed, I was just told a price straight away, though they knew that the tat was from that studio... The recolour that Billy H. did took maybe three minutes... it's quite a wee tat... size of a £1 coin, plus some shading around. The red ink had gone pink due to the outline being really heavy, it looked like a hickey on my ankle!

I'm glad someone's getting good service from Biz Ink, but I wouldn't go back myself for obvious reasons. I'd like to make it clear that I'm not on here to diss people... I just had some really lovely things done last week, so I'm all happy now.

I know spacey, I also know wolf.... if he is still there. Bizarre Ink is one the best places to go, in my opinion because I spent alot of time hanging around Bizarre Ink in wishaw as I knew the piercer.
