| Elvish tattoo Dear friends, I urgently require your help!!!
My wife and me want to get a tattoo in elfish writing which expresses our feelings towards each other... I have been struggling to get reliable information from the net in regards to the correct translation and the conversion into one of the many writing fond. Therefore we are looking for somebody, who can give us a hand. Her name is NORA which means light and translated in elfish means "Caladhiel" according to a web page I have found. I could imagine a small tattoo with the correct translation and conversion into elfish fond which mean "everlasting light" or "eternal light" or jut NORA written in a beautiful writing fond...
She wants to get something similar. I only found a translation for Timothy which means honor god which means translated "Erutįron"... My actual name is TIMM and I was wondering if there is more direct translation???
PLEASE let us know, if you have any other idea for our tattoo, which will be dedicated to our love to each other...
Thank you! |

| Re: Elvish tattoo Unfortunatly you are after something from a made up language which means that unlike english, german or even japanese means that there is no real way of establishing an exact translation. my advice would be to look up font sites, many of which have downloadable elvish fonts and elvish inspired fonts and pick which one you like best. as long as you and you partner know the meanin g and sentiment behind it thats all that really matters.
unless of course you know a lot of elves that will slag you for getting it wrong
best of luck

best of luck | You're half right
It's made up aye, Tolkien was a professor of languages, spoke between 10-14 fluently and had been workin on the elvish ones since he was a lad, so they are peculiarly well formed, even insofar as having 3 dialects.
the script is a wee bit tricky to put together unless you're aware of the tenses and how the vowels work, best bet is to jump on a Tolkien forum and pray there's a more knowledgable geek than I to help out. I actually have a book on the language biugh back when I was working on a Tolkien themed window, never got much further than doing my own name in it though.
On a related note, ther's a client in my work jsut now with a spectacularly badly done elvish tattoo on the side of her hand. |

| Re: Elvish tattoo What toast said.
The language still exists, its just not that commonly used. I would also suggest trying a more related website than this.
