I need some tattoo help please

I need some help with some tattoo ideas.
About a year ago I got my first tattoo, I now have four and two of them look crap.
I have "Chaos" written on my left wrist and I want to get it covered over with a Japanese lucky cat going down my arm
BUT I also have a small heart and star design on the left side of my chest above my boobie. It's black, simple and very badly done so I want to get it covered over by getting a full chest piece.
I know I want a Rose in the centre of my chest and then want stars, hearts, other flowers and some kind of swirly pattern coming out from the Rose, problem is, I'm a crap artist and I dunno where to begin trying to get my ideas down on paper.
I can't draw them but I can't seem to find and pictures of other tattooes that are similar that I could take to an artist. Ideas??

If you just head down to the parlour where you intend on getting inked, they should be able to draw up what you're looking for if you describe it to them.

I have spoken to them and the guy said he could draw it up but he needs to know what style of Rose and what style I want the hearts etc in. Is there like a trick to finding ideas or do ya just go on something like google images and have a good search?

Google images is also pretty good. You don't have to have a tattoo image, just grap a load of images of what you like then take them down with you and chat with the Tattooist they should be able to tell you what will work depending on placement and what can be done.

I've had a look and got some images together, Just worried about how they'll cover up the original coz it's just black and the cover up I want is gonna be like a red rose with thorns coming off and wrapping round a heart on either side, above each of ma boobs....Reckon it'll be possible to have the heart on my left side cover over the old one, considering it's black?

Honestly no idea. Will depend on the current tattoo and design you want to go over it. Obviously putting light colours over dark is pretty hard but your tattooist will be able to tell you what can and can't be achieved.

In terms of getting a tattoo designed the more input visually you can put in the better as you can describe what you want verbally but the tattooist interpretation of what you say is simply that, his interpretation. where as, if you have a half dozen or so examples of tattoos its always helpful. they dont even need to be of the same subject matter, it could be a style/colouring style of a different subject matter but it helps illustrate what you are after and cuts down on the amount of time fafing about trying to pin down what you are after. it also shows the tattooist that you are willing to do some of the work yourself rather than just dumping it on someone elses lap.

as for the cover up section, there are a few factors envolved, like the quality of the existing tattoo, is it faded? is it well done? what size is it? these all have a bearing on what you can and cant cover it with. roses can be quite good for covering things but sight unseen i cant say for sure.

=D Thank you very much ^.^ I have a folder on my laptop as we speak which is slowly being filled with ideas and patterns etc etc so I hope he'll have some idea of what I want.

good news: because its just linework it makes it a bit easyier to cover

bad news: it looks like a pretty solid outline and pretty dark, depending on the style of the rose it may be a bit of pain to cover. also just re'read your original post and i see you want the rose in the center of your chest, so i would say it largley depend on what you had in mind for that area. remember tho that what ever is used to cover it will need to be mirrored on the other side, in terms of darkness.

on a side note, have you considered lazer removal? even fading it down a bit will help in covering it up and if you got it completly removed you could get what evre you wished tattooed. it does mean more expense and having to wait a bit but it means you have a blank(er) slate

Yeah I was gonna get a heart on either side with thorns wrapped round them, like squeezing them. I need to research lazer removal though coz I dunno what the pricing is or where I'd go to get it done etc...I never even thought about it tbh.

if you are wanting a heart to cover it it will need to be solid black as any flat colour (red etc) the black outline will just shine right through it.

Reckon I could possibly have like a black heart with red shading around the edge or something??
