| Re: Piercing FAQ First post; and it's my birthday.
I got my ears pierced about...2 weeks ago now I think. They spin really easily and stuff, but every time I move them around, it stings a bit and they're a bit...crusty. Am I doing okay..? |

| Re: Piercing FAQ Happy birthday, Welcome, and yes they sound fine. They're still healing. Just mind and give them a wee wash with salt water to get rid of the crusty bits and keep them clean.

The soreness and crusting is normal, keep cleaning them with salt water/saline solution for a few more months and try not to fiddle with them too much, then they should be fine and dandy! |

| Re: Piercing FAQ I have a question, and im having a hard time finding out the answer. what is the best thing to use to keep a surface clavicle piercing clean?
i have the plastic tubing in right now because my body doesnt like to heal with surgical steel. but i have healed extremely well with the plastic in the past. i have also had a problem using sea salt or saline solution in the past with piercings. it seems to really irritate my skin and do more bad than good.
i have had success before using tea tree oil , but this is my first time trying to heal a surface piercing and i hear its very different. will that work for surface piercings? any help i can get would be amazing. i love them so far. no irritation or pain. but i've only had them for 3 days so far.
and everywhere i look online is pretty much telling me that they will just never heal no matter what you do. but i am choosing not believe that I love them too much to give up on them.
ok... im new to the site and i think i may have just posted this in the wrong section.... hmmm....

I believe you can get pierced with something other than surgical steel, therefore not requiring to leave the plastic into heal the piercing. I'm unsure why a piercer would be happy to leave a piece of plastic under the skin, doesn't seem like a safe method of healing to me.
Hopefully someone will be able to help you out more though

| Re: Piercing FAQ I had a PTFE bar in my surface piercing, that would probably be better than the plastic tube. As for cleaning, i usually use saline solution but this can be very drying, and used tea tree solutions on my microdermals on my chest and these have healed fine, maybe the problems you're having are that the solution you're making up is too strong, you only need about one teaspoon of salt ina cup of cooled boiled water or 3-4 drops tea tree oil in the water. I agree with Witch though, i don't understand a piercer feeling happy about leaving just the plastic in!

your making your saline too strong then.
1/4 of a teaspoon of salt to half a pint of water.
tea tree oil is too harsh and will do more harm than good when trying to heal a fresh piercing.
and i hate to be the beared of bad news, but they won't heal. the positioning moves too much, so even if they don't reject they will never really heal properly.
be sure to remove them when they start to reject, don't leave yourself with bigger scars than necessary |

| Re: Piercing FAQ im sorry i didnt mean plastic tubing, i meant the PTFE bar. i had a mind melt for a minute and couldnt remember what it was called.
thanks for the advice. i was told that there was a sterile cleaning solution you can get made specifically for puncture wounds but i cant remember what it is called.
glad to know i posted the question in the right spot.
im on day 4 of having the new piercings and so far so good. |

| Re: Piercing FAQ Personally, I wouldn't use nirvana, although their practise was good. When putting the bar in my tragus they were meant to put a bigger bar in incase of it being swollen and bring my backa week later to have it "changed down" instead.. they put in the bar I should have had a few weeks later. Thankfully There was no swelling. My new Piercer Bob from "scream n skull tattoos and piercing" in Lanark was shocked he has put that in. I trust him and I know hes a good piercer I recommdend him (Y) |
