I think what you have is a different way of writing 13 which is also correct. It was explained to me but I was only half listening. I am sure Daniel will come on later and offer a huge long winded explanation.

Yeah i was wondering if it was some kind of diferent slant on what I'd call standard binary. When I just saw the one row of numbers I recognised it as being just one singular character, as usually each character in binary is made up of eight digits, so I thought hmmm there should be 16 digits there for the number 13, not eight.

It does say 13 in 8 bit decimal to binary conversion, not ASCII, if it is 8 bits to a character that is ASCII (what computers use), If you are just writing a number as binary 1101 is 13 ( 8 + 4 + 1 )
