| Re: Microsoft Office 12 [2007] I feel I must point out that this is a beta version and not everything (ie. the scroll wheel thing) will be finished -- best not to review/make harsh criticisms of the software untill we get a hold of final copies.
/Station obvious.
Was using the new word there and it crashed on me when in full screen and I was using commands rather than the menus, so that's one to watch out for if you're using it as your main office tools. |

| Re: Microsoft Office 12 [2007] Yeah i mentioned that and the end of my mini-review.
If the things that i mentioned as being irritating are still present in beta 2 then i feel i must ask why? surely by the time you get to the point of having a second beta, most of the bugs should be ironed out and the features implemented?
(ok maybe not the bugs, that is after all the point of beta's, but certainly the features).

| Re: Microsoft Office 12 [2007] Well, I've only played with Word, but it was better then I was expecting. The only thing is that it doesn't quite feel right.
I'm sure I'll get over that after I've used it some more.
I do still think that they should have gone for a Pages style Inspector window, but I also realise that that works better on a Mac then it does on Windows, mainly as a result of the Mac 'windows' not filling the ful screen. |

| Re: Microsoft Office 12 [2007] We just moved to Office 2007, and let me just say I don't want to be involved in re-training the entire health board.
It's totally different.
Folk are really going to struggle with the move. |

It looks nice, but I struggled to find my way about it at first. |

| Re: Microsoft Office 12 [2007] A year later?
I've rolled back to Office 11.
Main reasons:
The Ribbon isn't intuitive.
It just isn't. I like changes - as long as they are for the right reasons and are beneficial.
I accepted it would take me a short while to get used to the new interface and it did.
However, it still didn't MAKE SENSE.
I'd give practical examples, but it's gone from my system now so I can't.
Speed. Deary me. The long pauses between switching from document to document is a real real downer. There's no way I could have continued to use it.
Coming up to the end of the financial year I get tons of change requests documents and new specifications. They are rarely more than 20 pages, but if I had 3 or 4 open at once the lag was insane. Batshit insane.
It's not a slow laptop either. Core 2 Duo, 2 gb ram. It shouldn't be slow.
This was primarily a Word problem.
Not had a chance to look at the changes to VBA. I rarely write apps for office now.
Office 2007 is a brave step.
Completely changing the interface for one of the flagship MS packages.
Not for me though. I think a lot of folk will find the swtich a bit of a pain in the arse.
Might be ok for new users who know no different, but then again the menu system it totally different to any other windows application I have ever used.

| Re: Microsoft Office 12 [2007] I got this whole package thingy of Microsoft Office 2007 for only 18 quid It's because I work for the NHS and so have an NHS email address. All I had to do was pay for the postage. It's pretty cool - loving the OneNote thing they've got going on. To be honest though, I've only really looked at Word since that's all I'm needing at the moment. |

Do you not find it bloated with features and slow?

| Re: Microsoft Office 12 [2007] Well they sorted out a lot of the crap aspects of Outlook 2003 I only really use it for that.
It seems more stable and less prone to that situation where users open two instances and somehow it gums the computer up. Havent had a single user complain about office 2007 either well not since they leaned how to export and im[port documents from other versions etc.
I think M$ took a long hard look and sorted out other problems that are minor irritants like the fact in 2003 it was difficult to get the reading pane to stay where you wanted it in outlook
I also like its design and the layout is far more intuitive |
