Hey everyone, Jeff here - mod of Movies, Techy, and TV. In the past we've taken a strong no-tolerance policy towards any mention of piracy, torrents, and peer-to-peer filesharing. This was due to other social websites being taken down for things as simple as linking to other sites that could get you illegal software and films. Since we all love our Forbes, we've been pretty tyrannical about stomping out some of the threads that were put up here and there.
Recent trials in both the US and UK legal systems have now solidified laws regarding this to the point where we at Altnation can loosen our Stormtrooper grip. However, we'd still like it if folks would not abuse it - data theft is still illegal. If you download software you did not purchase that requires a license purchase, it's illegal. If you download music you did not pay for but were required to do so by law, you are a data thief. If you download a film that's still in cinemas, good chances are it's illegal to do so. If you download a US television program...well, the courts are still out on that one currently - but you might get called a bandit by some folks.
Morally, the theft of data is repugnant for some people - please understand that they are entitled to their opinion. Likewise understand that if we at Altnation receive a request to remove your post, we will act in full compliance with them as quickly as we are able.

With all that said, here's the new rules:
If you want to mention to your friends that are looking for the new episode of Lost, link 'em to (for example) the site or the page, but not directly to the .torrent or the video file -
www.thepiratebay.org/Lost/s03/26 NOT
www.thepiratebay.org/Lost/s03/26/Lost.torrent
We'd really prefer it if you didn't link directly to the page, but rather to the main site in this instance (ie
www.thepiratebay.org ), or if you were to post the filename instead (ie, Lost.pdtv.xvid.scene.0326.avi ), but it's not something we're going to get all picky about.
And again - let's not abuse it, I don't want to have to come in here and delete posts because some numpty (Stew, I'm looking at you here) has come in and posted direct links to 50 files a day.
