According to their website Songbird is a desktop Web player, a digital jukebox and Web browser mash-up. Built on the Mozilla codebase it supports lots of add ons and css based skins.

The latest version is 0.2.5 and is a developer / early adopter preview version. Its fully functional, although there are features yet to be implemented. Songbird has all the usual welcome features of other media players including:

Library with ratings, Metadata editing, playlists etc
Radio (through shoutcast)
Audioscrobbler plugin (for Last.Fm)
Mini Mode
Skins (currently only 3 available, structure still to be finalised)

However, Songbird is much more than just a media player. One of the most interesting things about Songbird is the integration of a web browser (It is after all built on the same codebase as Firefox/Mozilla).

Songbird can search the web for any song you want to hear, then play it back, download it, add it to your library. Same with podcasts.

Even though this is an early developer preview, it still works amazingly well.

Songbird is available for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux.
