| Firefox 3 RC1 out now Been using it today, and it does feel a lot snappier.
Took a wee bit of digging to get updates for a couple of extensions, but other than that, all going smoothly. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-beta.html |

Memory usage: Several new technologies work together to reduce the amount of memory used by Firefox 3 over a web browsing session. Memory cycles are broken and collected by an automated cycle collector, a new memory allocator reduces fragmentation, hundreds of leaks have been fixed, and caching strategies have been tuned.

| Re: Firefox 3 RC1 out now I would strongly recommend people test this out by using the portable version. That way it won't interfere with your old FF2 install at all. Also if you know how to use the FEBE extension then you can easily bring all your bookmarks etc along.

The portable version doesn't 'install' as such, it just sits in it's own wee folder. It's meant to be loaded onto a USB drive so you can use it on any machine you like. AFAIK this contains most of the new features etc of FF3 proper.
So far I'm really liking the improved way it handles saved passwords and bookmarks.

If you mean how do you bring over your current settings into the portable, then you need an extension called FEBE https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2109

| Re: Firefox 3 RC1 out now I had a look at it a while back in the earlier Beta and found several snags. Interested to see if those've been cleared up now.

| Re: Firefox 3 RC1 out now I'm impressed. Very impressed. Massive improvements over FF2 and the Betas.
For some reason the Mac version doesn't have the Back and Forward buttons on the UI as deafult.

| Re: Firefox 3 RC1 out now A lot of cool features that I've found so far (saving your tabs when you close the browser is great)
Also, for incompatible add-ons, go into about:config and create a new boolean called extensions.checkCompatibility and set it to false. Restart Firefox and all (or most) of your add-ons will now be working. |
