[Tech] Media Players

Looking for something thats better than Windows Media Player (and not winamp cos I don't like it, too messy for my liking).

Preferably something with an MSN plugin avaliable. Suggestions?

do you mean MSN plug in as in "show what your listening to?"

I just use iTunes for everything on both PC and Mac, I only downloaded it in the 1st place for my iPhone, but I actually quite like it now, and it works well.

I hate iTunes more than WinAmp. (not that I'm fussy!

There are about 500 threads like this in here, and I recommend JetAudio in all of them. http://www.jetaudio.com and it also has the plugin you're after in the Display Preferences.

Winamp is crap. I just updated my JetAudio and the Messenger window seems to be gone from Display properties. I'm wondering if the previous version I had was the full program from some torrent site. Anyway, JA is a great wee thing. I can't remember the last time I used a different media player.

You can de-clutter winamp quite effectively btw. Put me off at first as well, but a couple of trips to the preferences section later and all was well in the world.

iTunes just infuriates me, and after all the apple slagging I do, I can't go back to it.

This jet thing seems really good, really neat, simple. ME LIKES!

Why the hatred for apple too?

Don't get me wrong, I don't have a hard on for all things apple, infact, I don't really care either way. Playing music from my comp is a background activity.

Just does, end up with stuff on my playlist that I had removed (yes, its probably me being daft, but I gave up easily).

I just think apple products are overpriced and overrated and prefer MP3 players that actually play other formats like WMA's for example.

How can iTunes be over priced, it's free?
I didn't realise that you couldn't play WMA files on it..To be fair to iTunes though, aren't WMA files Microsoft's fault? Everyone else uses/creates MP3s..(not that I know a lot about the subject)

Not meaning specifically slagging here... just in general.

The overpriced thing was more referring to why I hate apple rather than iTunes.

Lots of my music is in WMA format so I chose to have an MP3 player that wasn't an iPod. I suppose if all your music is MP3 format it may be easier, but karine spent the whole day yesterday waiting for iTunes to convert her WMA's to MP3's.

I just dislike apple... probably a bit unjustified, but... personal opinion and all that.

if you drag a WMA file to iTunes it'll convert it to MP3 (or AAC) for you.

however, i'm baffled as to why you'd care. if you're ripping CDs you own, just don't make 'em WMAs... and if you're nicking stuff, nick MP3s not WMAs... surely...
