| Re: Once again vista Fails To impress I wanna buy a new laptop but it seems it's getting harder to buy one with XP and I just do not wanna get involved with Vista yet, the Serato forums are crawling with people saying "whatever you do, don't get Vista"
They should hurry up and fix whatever needs fixed, but just as importantly, find a way to increase people's confidence in it!

Hopefully Windows 7 will be a lot better. Quote:

Yeah, he seems to have it well sorted. Still a scary thought though, I have visions of missing something, and at half one on a friday night, the computer shutting down Serato and proudly announcing "Vista will now scan your hard drive for unused desktop icons" or something

That would be amusing to say the least. | There was indeed a 2000, and probably remains one of the most stable and reliable operating systems about, the only things it really lacks from xp is the visual tweaks. I had less bluescreens on 2k over 3-4 years than i did in 6 months of xp.
ME was an absolute abortion. |

*edit* for the reasons that Shannow posted above. |

And that's not even including NT! | As I understand it, 3.x and 95/98/ME where all based on MS DOS. When MS started basing their OS' on NT instead, they numbered them differently, so you got NT 1 to 3, then 2000 and XP are both based on NT5 (Windows 5.1 and 5.2 if you will) and Vista is based on NT6 etc Quote:

| Re: Once again vista Fails To impress 3.1 - Still used by parts of a certain large tax office in EK.
95 - Shit at first, but the second edition worked pretty well.
98 - See 95.
NT - Stable, but too many things a home user'd want to do were so finicky as to make it impractical.
2000 - Still the best iteration I've used, more stable than all the others put together.
ME - The computer equivalent of raping toddlers.
XP - Has run ok for me, but again, I didn't get it until we'd had a service pack or two fixing problems.
Vista - Not touching it with a barge pole. |
