| Re: Once again vista Fails To impress I've never had any real bother with Vista, bar that its counter-intuitive bullshit that is much worse than its predecessor.
And don't get me started on Office '07.

XP - Has run ok for me, but again, I didn't get it until we'd had a service pack or two fixing problems.
Vista - Not touching it with a barge pole. | Vista has been the most stable thing I've used yet and I'm using vista 64bit, though 2000 was magic. I really can't understand the slating vista is getting, it just works.

| Re: Once again vista Fails To impress so exactly why should anyone spend time and money reactivating a product that should actually respect the purchasers right to use without wasting time and effort and money?
You must be using vista home version or something. I am using Ultimate but have never had to reactivate when I change RAM etc |

| Re: Once again vista Fails To impress my new laptop has vista - i wanted to walk out of the shop with one and everyone said it'd take ages to get an XP one sorted - and so far i'm kinda "meh" about it.
took a while to get rid of most of the crap and i'm not done with that yet. it was something of a pain having to find out where to put my firefox and thunderbird profiles, all that stuff has moved, along with add/remove programs. lots and lots of those sorts of things to figure out - i'd say with Apple system revisions you have as many new things to learn but they tend to be easier to figure out without resorting to google.
i've had a few application crashes (including but not limited to ( ) firefox and iTunes), and a few oddities have cropped up, for example two thirds of my itunes library hadn't actually been copied onto the new laptop's internal HD from my external disk, despite the computer thinking it had been. weird but now sorted.
SP1 is now installed though there's no obvious (to me) differences, and my main concern - the stability of my most important bit of software, Serato - seems to be appeased, it seems that when the computer has wireless enabled but isn't connected to a network, it causes glitches in Serato, but as soon as you're actually connected they disappear. i presume that turning wireless off altogether would also sort that, but i haven't yet figured out how
so all in all no worse than XP but no better either, is my two cents.

| What's wrong with office 2007????
Its a great advancement on 2003. Its stable, they fixed all the problems with outlook. I think you'll find theres a great deal of approval for 2007 out in the workplace. I would agree if you mentioned how incompatible it is with previous versions of Access but it has decent export features and you can run two versions anyway |

Firefox/thunerbird profiles are not all that different from xp, jsut the folder is named a slightly different place.
Add/remove programs is now titled 'programs and features' in your control panel.
One thing Vista does have that will make me love it always though, if you're a sensible person who always has filetype extensions visible, when you f2 to renam a file, it automaticvally ONLY highlights the filename and not the extension. Unf unf unf. |

There's another thread about Office 12 though!

| Re: Once again vista Fails To impress I'm not a fan of Vista, I prefer XP. I've tweaked my XP to the max and it is running so smoothly.
About to duel boot with Ubuntu though for a bit of fun.

| Re: Once again vista Fails To impress Yeah I have XP and Ubutnu dual boot on my PC in the house.
I'll use XP if I'm coding (.NET stuff) but Ubuntu for most other things.

| Re: Once again vista Fails To impress There's nothing I need Windows for, so I didn't even bother dual booting, Ubuntu all the way here.
Best of both worlds: the smug satisfaction of a stable and secure non-Microsoft OS, and the relief that I'm not in the same camp as iAl. |
