Cracked MacBook Case - Warranty Repair?

I just noticed a crack in the case of my MacBook, to the right of the trackpad, just above the IR sensor and presumably just above where the magnets live. It's not too bad at the moment but it's exactly where my hand/wrist rests so will very likely get worse. On further investigation, I also found a hairline crack all the way along the front side, which isn't as bad but still a bit worrying.

Does anyone have any idea about warranty repairs for this sort of thing? I've never dropped it, and if you look at the rest of the case it's pretty much pristine. Google suggests that it's a fairly common problem with MacBooks, so I've booked an appointment with the "Genius" Bar, but I'd quite like to go armed with a decent response to the inevitable "we can't do that under warranty, five million pounds please" and "you've blatantly dropped it, get tae."

Re: Cracked MacBook Case - Warranty Repair?

I had a huge crack on mine when i took it in and they replaced the whole white bit round the keyboard under warranty no bother!! They're usually cool in the genius bar though, fib and tell them when you lean the keys are flicking or something

Re: Cracked MacBook Case - Warranty Repair?

Same thing happened to mine in almost exactly the same place. I took it in and they sorted it no bother. All done under warranty, and it only took them about two hours.

You should be fine to just take it in and say "oi fix it."

Re: Cracked MacBook Case - Warranty Repair?

Colour me surprised. I have an intense distrust of the genius bar since they took my laptop away for two days and didn't replace any of the stuff they said they had. I'm just too lazy to complain, though.

Thanks folks!

Re: Cracked MacBook Case - Warranty Repair?

Genius Bar folk are amazing, my iPod wouldn't switch on and they just gave me a brand new one cos it was still under warrantly.

it's definitely worth a go to just ask them for advice either way.
