| Memory Upgrade Quick question that I'm sure is easy enough to for those in the know. I just bought and installed a an extra wee bit of memory, 256MB DDR. Now my computer seems to be running a bit smoother, itunes isn't taking 5 minutes to load anymore, so it seems to have worked. However when I open System Information in My Computer it still says I have just 512MB RAM...why zat?

| Re: Memory Upgrade Did you match the correct DDR speed number thingy? I.e. if your old 512MB module was DDR400 your 256MB module should also be DDR400.

| Re: Memory Upgrade I have no idea, I did deliberate over which memory I needed for quite some time... I looked up the Dell 4550 online and followed links to the correct memory for this machine. It fitted in the spare slot perfectly and when I booted the puter up it recognised that the memory had changed... As I say, I think all is well, I just don't know why it doesn't seem to have registered in System Info (Mayve I only had 256MB before... )

| Re: Memory Upgrade Dell you say?
Go to http://support.dell.com - stick in your service tag and look at the Original System Configuration - good bets on it being a single 256 stick if you don't remember what you had before. |

Just wanted to know if I had to anything else to register the new memory on the system...
It's coming up for 6 years old this PC, new hard disk couple years back and now a bit of a memory boost and it's still running perfectly!

| Re: Memory Upgrade Well you could try sacrificing a possum...I notice you didn't mention you'd cut your thumb on the case. All computer cases are angered if they do not draw blood when you open them - first law of computer tech.
"If thou dids't not draw blood against the side of yon case, thou shalt die. Or not register thine total RAM amount" |
