how can you not have the drivers installed for the wired port? Are you sure you jsut don't have it disabed for some reason?
Everything was fine until I started fiddling with the settings so I could connect my DS to the wifi.
It's a netgear WGR614v7.
I changed the security settings in the wireless settings bit from WPKT?? Bit to WEP and reset the access password to a 10 digit hex password as required.
All good, got online on my DS and my laptop was connected fine until I tried to change the hex password again and now I cannot get online as the router seems to no longer be sending a wireless signal. The only lights green are the power and 'internet' or 'i' lights. The wifi signal light does not come on.
Therefore I cannot access the router setup pages using the usual 192.168.1.1 url.
I can't take a wire from router to laptop either as I don't hav the drivers installed for the port on the laptop.... Which is fine since I only want to connect wirelessly which now I can't do!
Anyone any help? I've tried powering modem/router/laptop off and using the reset button on router but I'm gettin nothing![]()

Not sure about your particular situation, but I just recently had a fight with the same router while trying to reset it.
Make sure you hold the reset button for at least 30 seconds, and switch it off and on several times once you've done it. The router seems to be a bastard to reset. Obv make sure you reboot your computer too.
I almost threw mine out of the window trying to convince it to restore the factory defaults
This perplexed me too...

When I reinstalled xp the port no longer worked or showed up, I assumed drivers for the port were not installed with the operating system as the same thing happened with the wireless card... So I installed the drivers for wifi card and that was back to normal.
No amount of turning things of, resetting, kicking seems to be helping![]()

Why can't you just install the drivers for the port? You're going to have to connect to it with a cable to see what the problem is - can you borrow someone else's laptop?
You could give a reset one more shot, this seems to be what I ended up doing:
"Hold on to the reset button for a total of 1 minute. At the same time, for the first 20secs ,let the power cable be plugged in the router, for the next 20secs, unplug the power cable, for the last 20secs,once again plug in the power cable of the router. (note: you need to hold on the reset button for the entire 1 minute, donot let it go)"
Worth a shot.
+1 download the drivers for your ethernet port, it's going to be by far the easiest way to work out the current state of play.
