| Windows boot problem Ok this may take a bit of explaining:
The pc got a virus, and now the OS isnt valid anymore. When I boot up there is literaly no OS there. All I get is a pop up saying Windows is not valid. I can go online, but I cant go into anything on the comp.Windows website tells me to look up accessories/system etc to get my info but I cant do that. Literaly the only thing that works is ctrl+alt+del
Problem number two. I have a Windows disc which I have used in the past and I know it works fine, but when I try to boot it from startup (I have made it priority in BIOS etc) It wont load. I basicaly get stuck on the 'press any key to boot' screen yet somehow my keyboard does not respond to it. I have searched online and it says I could run it from Floppy, but there isnt one on the pc.
Preferrably I would like to fix the pc as it is a valid Windows OS with serial n all, but if thats impossible it would be good to figure out how to reinstall it completely.
RANT OVER

What did you use to clean the virus? What do you mean by "No OS there" - this would be a black screen with white writing saying "Invalid bootloader", but it sounds like you're getting something else - is windows loading up then you're getting this "pop up" - what is the actual pop up you're getting? What do you mean "I can go online" ?

| Re: Windows boot problem I know I was confused as well. When I load up the pop up says something like "Windows has encountered a critical error and cannot run properly" Or something like that. The pop up gives a link to the Windows site to validate the software. Apparently Windows didnt validate, but the pc is well over a year old and was fine.
I cant clean whatever virus is on it because I cant get into windows to run a scan.

| Re: Windows boot problem Tried that. It seems theres something quite vital missing from Windows for it to start up at all. When I scanned the pc contents using the Windows website it comes up with a big error saying that Windows is not valid. I cant see that being the single reason it isnt running.... maybe :s

| Re: Windows boot problem It's my studio PC she's on about. It's basically been radged by some fanny looking up all sorts of porn, fair play, but I've now got a virus, not fair play.
It seems fairly fucked.

| Re: Windows boot problem Assuming you have access to other pcs/ burners. Have you tried any other boot cds? You can put windows installer onto usb keys or usb hard drives.
Personally I've used WinSetupFromUSB for some XP and server installs and I think a W7, although I think I had more problems with 7 than with XP.
