Is that with the Enterprise version of Norton?

I use Corporate and I don't, y'see.

I'm assuming it was the home version I saw it in.

Sorted man, added that under Norton in the first post as another reason to go for a free alternative that's superior.

Re: What is the best anti-virus software for me?

The last time I removed Norton Home from a PC it was a bit of a mess. Norton themselves have a small app on their homepage to clean up after an ininstall which is highly recommended - I found I couldn't install a new AV program until I'd used the utility to fix up Norton's slopping uninstall. Always uninstall Norton Home from safe mode is the moral or the story.

AVG Free Edition

Well, for starters it is free, which is always a good start. It's control centre gui isn't the easiest to get to grips with, but once set up you hardly need to touch it. It can be configured to automatically block certain attachments through e-mail and has a rescue diskette function in case your system is attacked by a trojan and leaves you unable to start windows.

It's not really effective against malware though, so you'll need to get yourself some extra software for that, as you already should have.

Only problem with it as far as I can see is that if you are using the free version you get no technical support.

***

I use AVG always have done and have never had any problems with it find it very simple to setup and use and have never had the need for technical support.

On the malware front grisoft now has a free version of the AVG antispyware program.

Re: What is the best anti-virus software for me?

Sadly, their spyware product doesn't cut it when compared to a knowledgeable person using HijackThis, or even AdAware Personl Edition's basic scan competency.

Great for virus protection, but just doesn't have the focus to be a spyware solution competitor at the moment.

Re: What is the best anti-virus software for me?

AVG is being updated to v7.5 just now, after Christmas or so the v7 programs will stop updating and no longer be supported. There's still a freebie of 7.5 available, so despair not.

Re: What is the best anti-virus software for me?

I have PC tools spyware doctor and PC tools anti-virus. Spyware doctor is great for dealing with malware, but I'm having issues with PC tools anti-virus at the moment so am looking for new anti-virus software.

Re: What is the best anti-virus software for me?

Soyware Doctor (in my experience) tends to corrupt TCP stacks and browser HTTP requests more than it fixes anything.

I've made more money off of fixing the stuff that Spyware Doctor breaks than actual virus/spyware infections

As for an anti-virus software, I'd personally recommend Norton Corporate (pricey), or Grisoft's AVG (Free and good)
