| Re: Dollhouse - New Joss Whedon Series Maybe "Dollhouse" airing Fridays is not so bad for the show after all? http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsideth...sis-foxs-j.html Quote: |
The Whedonverse is already in an uproar, all "Not again, FOX!" and "Woe is Joss!" and "We won't get fooled again!" And don't get me wrong, premiering the show on Friday the 13th (of February) is almost like a bad joke. But here's the reality: Dollhouse could be the best show ever made and it would have gotten crushed in the Monday 8 p.m. time slot. Between Chuck, Gossip Girl and How I Met Your Mother/ Big Bang Theory, young viewers were already spoken for, as Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles was finding out on a week-to-week basis. Throw in that ABC show where alleged celebrities allegedly dance and it was a recipe for disaster, especially since a slow start for Dollhouse would have doomed 24, which FOX wouldn't have allowed, leading to an early cancellation. On Fridays, FOX can afford to be a smidge more patient, while the competition isn't nearly as stiff, going up basically against Ghost Whisperer and MyNetworkTV's wrestling. In addition, Dollhouse is paired with T:TSCC. Although most Terminator viewers would, correctly, tell you that the show has been really good for the past four or five episodes, the ratings have been dreadful, probably because of the myriad Monday 8 p.m. draws for young male viewers. Put on Friday, with an already-inked promise for a full season (not that that means much to FOX), Terminator can almost get a reboot and it's excellently matched with Dollhouse. I'm not saying this is the best chance for Dollhouse to succeed -- though maybe FOX will find a way to give it an Idol boost of some sort -- but it may be its best chance not to fail quickly. I could be totally wrong on this hunch, of course.

| Re: Dollhouse - New Joss Whedon Series Surprised no-one has updated this thread yet. The first episode aired on Friday in the US and it's pretty damn good.
It managed to pull in 4.7 million viewers. 4.7 isn't a lot for an early week show in the US but isn't terrible for a Friday. I'll keep my fingers crossed that they don't axe it within a month then. Oh, and according to Wikipedia.. Quote: |
The premiere episode of Dollhouse helped FOX double its viewership levels among women versus Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and helped the network finish in second place among adults 18-34 and in first place across key male demos for the night.

| Re: Dollhouse - New Joss Whedon Series It was pretty good. Bit of a slow starter though, so it's success will depend on whether it can attract a following week after week. |

Oh, and according to Wikipedia.. | Buddy of mine was quoting numbers that I haven't had a chance to verify, apparently around 5.1 - 5.3 was what it needed on the first night to go on, so we'll see.
I wasn't all that impressed, but I've been powerhouse re-watching Buffy so I may be Whedon'd out. |

| Re: Dollhouse - New Joss Whedon Series It's just Joe 90 for the 2000s. It was awright but could get very very repetitive. Seemingly the 1st episode was cut tae fuck by Fox and was not the episode that Joss Whedon wanted as the pilot. Looks like another of his shows getting hammered by the network and we will see the best of it when the DVD box set comes out. |

yknow....just when it becomes interesting. | I've just watched episode 6 and it is indeed getting interesting.
Is anyone else watching this?
I love Eliza Dushku but that might be due to me loving Faith's character in Buffy.
I definately like it enough to keep watching but it's missing Whedon's humourous way of talking that Buffy TVS, Angel and Firefly had. Saying that it's hard to pull off tongue in cheek sci fi, this kind of story might not work if it was funny...
