| US Version of "Spaced" Pilot Ordered. From Zap2It Quote:
FOX has ordered a pair of single-comedy pilots based on popular British formats.
The network originally requested a script for "Spaced," from the Channel 4 hit, back in October, while a pilot has also been ordered for "Outnumbered," from a BBC format.
"Spaced" is produced by McG's Wonderland Sound and Vision and was written by Adam Barr ("Will & Grace").
Premiering in 1999 and airing for 14 episodes over two seasons, the original "Spaced" starred Jessica Hynes and Simon Pegg as two strangers who pretend to be a couple to rent a flat. Hynes and Pegg were both writers on the series, which was directed by Edgar Wright ("Hot Fuzz") and co-starred Nick Frost.
"Outnumbered" will be written and executive produced by Larry Levin ("Seinfeld"). The series focuses on a couple bringing up three children.
FOX is continuing to progress one of the trends of this truncated pilot season -- creative outsourcing. The FOX comedy pick-ups come one day after CBS ordered a pair of drama pilots based on international formats -- Israel's "Mythological X" and "Ny-Lon" from the U.K.
| The US version of Red Dwarf was interesting to watch, in a train-wreck sort of way, and I figure this will be no less. |

In fact, I'm so aghast that I'm posting twice in a row just to show my level of displeasure at this news..... it's very high!
OR I'll post twice but it'll come up in one post... didn't know that happened.

Spaced written by the guy who wrote Will and Grace? DO NOT WANT. (Is there any truth in the rumour that Will and Grace is the American version of Gimmie, Gimmie, Gimmie?)

| Re: US Version of "Spaced" Pilot Ordered. Surely not..... they're completely different!
If a rewrite of Spaced ends up as different as Will and Grace is to Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie, then it might be bearable to watch...... simply cause they won't be comparable. |

The second pilot has 3 minutes of the British version of RD before the American pilot starts. |

Ach well I'm not too fussed really. They never fucked up The Office | They fucked up everything else though. A big part of the appeal of Spaced is that it's irreverent and constantly making references to other things and blah blah. All that shit was probably super inventive back in the day but loads of tv shows do it now so I don't think it'll work. Plus a lot of the humour in it is inherently Brittish, I don't see that it will cross well to the U.S. I really hope and pray it doesn't have a laughter track or is a 24 episode season. |
