| Cheapo train journeys, help! Ok, here's the sketch folks. I want to buy something off ebay that I need to go and collect on friday from Bishop Auckland (near Darlington). It's small enough to take on the train, but when I go to the national rail site they want £62.50 for a same day return journey.
My thinking is that it'll cost £40 in petrol, or £30 to get the item couriered up next week. I'd rather get it in person, so hence I'm asking!
Are there any sneaky ways or good sites to get train journeys on the cheap? I need to be back in Glasgow by 2pm at latest too.
Who ever said planning travel was easy, eeek. |

| Re: Cheapo train journeys, help! Find someone who has a free rail card for being partially sited or blind, murder them and wear their skin. e: Half-serious answer: What about a megabus to the nearest major city and then train/bus? |

| Re: Cheapo train journeys, help! Car or lift to Edinburgh, Megabus from Edinburgh to Newcastle and then train or bus from Newcastle to Bishop Auckland? e: Meh, if you did it on the Wednesday the Megabus would be £7.50 apparently. Although their website hurts my eyes. |

| Re: Cheapo train journeys, help! Back by 2pm that day? You'll be pushing it considering the train'll take near enough four hours each way.
If you leave Glasgow at 6am you can get the value advance single for £12.50 and if you can push your time for getting back to Glasgow to half past three you can get the standard advance for £21.50. Thirty four quid all in.
Always check two singles - they're almost always cheaper |

| Re: Cheapo train journeys, help! Train prices are straight scandalous. Nae wonder the environment's getting fucked when they make train prices just go up and up while air travel costs just go down and down.

I've decided to get it couriered up next week if I can't find a cheap train next week. Sensibility won |
