| Cheap Flights (Tips on how to get them) I'm looking to visit friends in Kenya next year. Cheapest flights I can see for when I wanna go (January-Febuary sorta time) are all about £450 which is a bit on the steep side. But there are so many sites that say the search the prices of every major airline so why do they all offer different prices for the "cheapest flight available".
I'm very confused. What sites do you use for cheap flights? Is it better to go through the airlines site rather than a third party and compare yourself?

| Re: Cheap Flights (Tips on how to get them) I used 'opodo' when I bought tickets to New York...seemed to throw up the best deal after a lot of searching (bout £350 return inc. taxes (and that's for mid July)). Then tried getting them direct from the airline (USAirways) but was having problems as it's an american airline and has a shit website...the only method of paying I could find was an American phone number so just ended up buying through Opodo. Final cost came through on my card as like a £10 charge to opodo and £340 to USAir so they don't take a huge cut.
Also, being flexible with which Airport you fly from and which days you'll fly can bring the cost down a lot. Flights from Manchester (which is where i'm flying from) were consistently about £150 cheaper than from Glasgow and all the cheapest fares were on a Tue/Wed.
Looking quickly though...£450 sounds quite cheap... |

| Re: Cheap Flights (Tips on how to get them) I use a variety of sources, but leaving from the UK I usually use: http://www.airline-network.co.uk/
THEN.. take the flight info from there are see if I can get the same price for the same flight directly from the airline.. even if it's £10 or £20 more expensive, it's worthwhile getting the ticket direct from the carrier, rather than a third party. Means if anything goes wrong, you've got a bit more back up.

| Re: Cheap Flights (Tips on how to get them) £450 from Britain to a destination as far away as Kenya sounds pretty cheap.
Is Kenya not a wee bit unstable at the minute, too? |

| Re: Cheap Flights (Tips on how to get them) I would have thought £450 would be pretty good for Kenya but a few of the boys at work are telling me they usually get home for under £300 come January.
