Short Trip in Scotland?

I need to arrange a short trip somewhere not too far from Glasgow for a nice romantic stay. The girl in question has foolishly left this to me to decide and I'm really not a fountain of knowledge on suitable locations...

Can anyone on here chuck some suggestions my way, here's the criteria:

- No more than about 2 hours from Glasgow
- Nothing to swanky/expensive
- Scenic location
- Good facilities; camping is my favoured option but maybe a cabin or B&B ?
- I plan to go mid-week (Wed - Fri)

Even if someone could point me in the direction of an old thread or helpful website it'd be most appreciated.

I'm thinking Zooropa might be the man in the know on this so hopefully he'll turn up here...

Peace 'n' waffles

O

Cheap. Nice scenery. You can camp or stay in cabins or yurts.

Yeah, I've been up there with friends a few times. Always had a good time.
Staff are really nice too, and they sell an unusual range of meats in the site shop. Kangaroo, wild boar, ostrich, crocodile, buffalo and whatnot.

It sits on the grounds of one of the Scottish Agricultural Colleges farms which is where alot of the meat comes from. Its a lovely wee place with a nice stretch of the WHW into Tyndrum if you fancy a walk.

Not sure how it would be for a romantic night away though. The place is basically a bunch of hardcore roads on a hillside with pitches for the wigwams and yurts. The cabins are at teh top of the hill and are quite nice but not really positioned that well for privacy or ease of getting to. If you go for the wigwams your best getting ther eearly so you get some of the decent wigwams up the hill. If you get their late you usually get the ones on the road to the right that lead up to the main house. The problem with them is the chicken run is right across the road from you (unless its moved) and theres no windbreak so if theres the slightest breeze elsewhere it turns into a gale at that side.

Always mean to go back there again

Re: Short Trip in Scotland?

Strahfillan wigwams are good - there's some down near the borders too - my other half was down there with her pals this weekend.

My other suggestion would be Arran.
Can get the train down to Ardrossan and the ferry over. Such a nice island.

Oban is pretty nice too - again can go that step further and get the ferry over to Mull and visit BALAMORY.
Went there last year hillwaking on halloween, ended up invading the locals halloween party in a pub called the Mish Nish.
Supergirl respects my moves.

I'm a huge fan of getting ferries so I'm always going to be biased towards islands.

Re: Short Trip in Scotland?

I've always found chalet/log cabins pretty sweet. Callander was amazing when I was there. Same with Loch Awe and Loch Fyne. Usually go up there in September and its quality. Saying that, i've always been with a large group. But still i'd probably enjoy it just as much otherwise.

Re: Short Trip in Scotland?

I was going to say stay in Helensburgh and you can head through to Luss or even stay at the lodges and go round Loch Lomond, but those suggestions above seem well better!
