    USA Trip

Starting to think of saving up to do this at some point next year - probably after graduation for 3/4 weeks. Anyone ever done a roadtrip/similar round the US?

We've just started to plan this at the moment and I've bought a Lonely Planet guide to start researching some states and places I'd like to visit but got a few general Qs for people who've done this before:

    - What mode of transport did you mainly use? Will be able to use a car, if needed. Is there any sort of ticket available that's similar there as an interail ticket?

    - Very vague estimated budget for this kind of trip, done on as tight a budget as possible. That's very vague granted - but assume in the time frame we'll have we'll probably visit no more than 10 states but suppose this question is directed at people who have done a trip like this. What did you spend in total.

    - Any other websites/books/info that you can point me in the direction of as I said before, we're at the very beginning of planning this

    Cheers.

    Re: USA Trip

I'm looking into doing similar on the last leg of my round the world trip. Both greyhound and amtrak offer month long passes. Greyhound have the Discovery Pass and amtrak have the USA rail pass. Taking the train would be faster, but depending on where you go, you may end up needing to use connecting buses as well. Train stations are also generally located centrally, where as the bus stops that greyhound use may be in the outskirts or not so nice areas of town.

If you ask on the Lonely Planet Thorn Tree forums you will get some very detailed answers and many posts asking exactly the same thing.
