| New York I'm going to New YOIIIIIIIK on the 26th. Obviously theres the touristy big things to do but can anyone recommend me any lesser known, lesser touristy places to see or visit.
So far my New York Notepad of Fun is minimal minus huge attractions like the Statue of Liberty etc.
Any contributions would be helpful! |

| Re: New York I've been checking http://www.residentadvisor.net/ regularly to see if I spot anything. Nothing has really taken my fancy, which I find highly surprising. I have found this club http://www.musicislove.net/ that have had Kode 9, Flying Lotus etc. as previous guests, so it should perhaps be alright |

| Re: New York In fact, here's a post from a New York thread on another forum I use. Quote: Eateries
Katz Deli
Donuts at the Donut Plant
Pastis - the most awesome breakfast / brunch.
Mercer Kitchen - superb restaurant to impress the lady.
Carnegie Deli - best cheesecake and most ridiculous sandwiches ever.
Shake Shack burgers are f**king amazing. It's in Madison Square Park
If you want an amzing steak and are willing to fork out a few quid, go to STK in the meat packing district, opposite the budda bar Pubs / Bars
Nevada Smiths on 3rd Ave between 11th and 12th streets if you want to watch football.
McSorleys in the east village makes a pretty nice beer
Saks on 5th Ave Nights/days out
Visit Harlem
Times Square at night
Central Park NOT at night
Go see a show on Broadway you can get discounted tickets from a box on Times Square however there are usually big queues. There's another near the Statten Island ferry which is quieter
Walk through chinatown and little italy cos they are awesome and diverse.
Walk through central park and stop off at the metropolitan museum. The met is the most staggering museum you will ever have been to.
Ice skating at the rock
Rangers game at msg
Broadway show
Empire state building (by day)
Top of the rock (by night)
Head over to brooklyn and walk back over the bridge
Staten island ferry
Central park
P*ss up in greenwich village
Try get to one or more of the other boroughs
The open top bus tour is worth doing. Quite expensive, but get the 2 day tour, all 4 loops and you can hop on and off anywhere you like. Takes you through harlem, brooklyn etc, places you may not walk through yourself. www.flyush.com operate helicopters between JFK/Newark and Manhattan. Shopping
Macy's
Century 21
Jersey Gardens Hotels
Rivington Hotel, Lower East Side
New Yorker Hotel..very central (right beside madison square garden) 'Tips'
Get a yellow cab from the airport, not a dodgy one. Dodgy will rip you off up to $200
Always have loose dollars for tipping
Make sure you're ready for a lot of walking and go to loads of the places on foot..... you'll see so much more.
Pretzels taste like absolute sh*te but hotdogs are Shocked
Don't bother with taxis. Buses run really well from jfk anyways to nyc and it costs a fraction of the price and only takes about 40 minutes.
Dont bother with a boat around the Statue of Liberty - It's boring n there's not much to see
There's a good sports shop on Times Square - Can get decent trainers at good prices inc 2 for 1. You can get a couple of pairs of decent Adidas for 60/70 Dollars.

| Re: New York youd really like soho and little italy i think - its kinda off the touristy beat and track a wee bit - slightly less hustle and bustle. quite sex and the city esque too
are you going to see any shows? if so and you were planning on using tkts i would recommend going to the one down near battery park because its never as busy or has as long lines as the one in times square
also if you like musical theatre and have seen a lot of shows I would thoroughly recommend "forbidden broadway" - one of the best yet most basic shows I have ever seen. It just off broadway i *think* on 41st? in the Douglas Fairbanks theatre and is a spoof of all the other current and previous high grossing broadway shows. Its not gutter performances either - theyre all really talented. funniest funniest show ever
central park too

| Re: New York The Big Red Bus Company tours are well worth it. We did Brooklyn in the morning, Harlem in the afternoone then Manhattan in the evening and it was class. We did this on the first day so we wrote down a list of places we then wanted to visit on foot.
Staten Island ferry is also a good idea, and it's free! |
