Lightbulb visual arts studio

right dilemma people. In short I told uni to stuff it for the moment. Academic courses it seems really don't float my boat.

ended up being told in school in 6th year in advanced art I wasn't expected to pass then ended up with a band one A not impressed. So yeah, I hadn't applied to art school and ended up at uni.

I'm fearing it's way too late in the year to get into art school though

So, I was thinking. Visual arts studio course for a year then art school .

Anyone know much about the course, and is it worth doing or remotely useful? Also, is I switch from doing an MA (what I'm doing at present) to an art based course would I end up paying for the fees or would it count as a completely different type of course. ( was a bit confused about this as it'd still be an MA I'd be coming out with ) hmmmmmmm.....

the SAAS were less than helpful on this one as they wanted to know institutions and exact courses which I obviously couldn't give em.

In short someone help pretty please! I'd love to go off and do something arty ( I've been wishing I had all the time I've been at uni ) I just don't quite know how to go about it, and I don't think I could face another year of acadamia.

Cheers muchos.

/ wishful ramble

edit* yes the title was meant to say visual arts studio, not design. I'm just a tired mongo. Ignore

Re: visual design studio

There were loads of people in my class at Art School who had done a course at Visual Arts or Cardonald. Have a word with PamelaSockGirl cause she did the Visual Arts course. I went straight from school and I think I would have really benefited from doing a course in between.

What kind of thing are you thinking of doing? I did BA (hons) textile design at Glasgow specialising in weave design. I would suggest really really considering studying at other institutions as i think the art school really rely on their reputation a lot and there are other better courses out there (depending on what you want to do). (just my opinion though)

Not sure about fees and stuff. You might need to pay some of the fees as it would be like starting a new course. Sorry, I'm not much help!

They are not in the building they used to be in, they may have moved or closed down!

What about Cardonald? Would you be interested in that? Although I think they have a very strange teaching method.... one girl at art school told of stories of the tutors ripping pages out of scetch-books if they didn't think it was good enough!

Re: visual design studio

I don't know anything about art or the art school but with regard to your fees I think you get one false start, i.e. you can do 1 year of a course then leave it and start another without it counting against and you having to pay for 1 year's worth of fees.

However, I'm not sure if you'd be funded for your 1 year course then another 4(?) years at art school. I've had 5 years funding but that was for a course all at the one institution.

You could try phoning SAAS - there's a tiny chance you won't get someone who's completely incompetent.
