Here's the page on my server, still using your JPEGs:

Loads in 9.7 seconds, so the server is definitely a bit slow.

Now, with the JPEGs all converted to GIFs (128 colours) using ImageReady:

Loads in 6.0 seconds. I can't see any difference in quality.

(your colour images would probably compress better as JPEGs, but the black and white ones would probably be better as GIFs. Bit awkward having a mix though).

Takes about three seconds for me I'd say.

EDIT: ha, that's funny, takes about the same time in each browser, but Firefox loads them in horizontal stripes left to right / top to bottom, IE does the opposite, and Safari loads them in a big old jumbly mess
