Crafts for Children

Hey guys.

Im off to work with children a group leader at an activity camps in 3 weeks. Cant wait!

Part of my job is organinsing and running evening entertainment, or if its puring down and we have nothing to do, i have to sort something to do. Most of the time these will be organinsed already, however if Im caught out I want to be prepared!

So does anyone know of any good arts and crafts that dont take a lot of preparation or equipment that can be done with kids aged between 8 and 16?

Thanks x

Making stained glass windows out of PVA glue and tissue paper
Papier Mache piggy banks (it takes ages to dry though)
Paper people (you know when you fold paper and cut a person and you get a big string of people holding hands)
Chatterbox men (when you make those chatterbox things out of paper, you can change them into people by changing one of the folds. I'll take pics later)

Re: Crafts for Children

what age group?

you could get them to lay down on big bits of paper and draw around each other, cut out the shapes and then "dress" themselves (for younger children and well...me)

boil up eggs, empty out the inards, decorate the eggs, fill them with cotton wool and water and get them to grow cress,

Re: Crafts for Children

Your best bet is to invest in one of those enormous 1001 things to do on a rainy day-esque craft books. The el cheapo bookshops in town are normally great for that kind of thing.

Re: Crafts for Children

Felt can be your friend! You can make finger puppets from it, but cutting out two finger shapes and glueing the edges together then glueing on other bits of felt to make faces or arms or whatever. You can make stuffed animals with it, by pretty much the same methods as the finger puppets, but just stuffing them. Felt flowers in the style of tissue paper flowers, using wire for the stem (or straws painted green. And there'll probably be a million more things.
