Ron Mueck sculpture bought for the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art

If you haven't heard of Ron Mueck, google image search him. The guy is an amazing sculptor who used to do a lot of work in animatronics (he worked on The Labyrinth for one example) and now does the most amazing lifelike sculptures I've ever seen - but never lifesize. All his work is either tiny or huge, and his work 'A Girl', which has been purchased for the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh is of the huge variety.

Anyway, it's been bought for £500k after drawing unprecedented visitors to the gallery whilst it was on display.

Truly 'tis a wretchedly ugly creature. It looks like it's sprung straight from Davy Jones' locker!

Saw his stuff in the summer through in Edinburger. It really was amazing, the nervous giant was my personal favourite. Or maybe the wee old ladies.

Ron Mueck is a phenomanal artist, the attention to detail and sheer technical brilliance of his sculptures are incredible. I would definetely recomend seeing his work in person just so you can appreciate his use of scale.

His show in Edinburgh was something else.

If he comes back, you must go see it.
