| painting on metal. HELP! so um yeah, got to paint a belt buckle for someone
Any advice on the best kind of paint to use for the job. I'm figuring it'd have to be something oil based. Anyone?
The cheaper the better mind. I only need tiny amounts of paint for this one thing. |

| Re: painting on metal. HELP! smart thinking batman, didn't occur to me to use primer.
Anyone know if I could therefore use primer, acrylic then varnish to stop the acrylic chipping off? |

It really is pretty tough. And primer certainly helps.

something like humbrol, but you would still need to primer it.

I would've suggest enamel paint too Might work out expensive though to buy it in a model shop, so you could try those jars you get in diy type places, think it might be Plastikote, but they do an enamel type paint too. Beside the big cans of spray paint. |

| Re: painting on metal. HELP! If you can, give the surface a light sanding, then use car primer.
Let it dry PROPERLY, then either use touch-up brushes from the same range as the primer... Or whatever else you fancy.
Option B might end up in a paint reaction, though and you'll end up back at Square One.
Then a layer of lacquer over the top, and you're good to go. |

| Re: painting on metal. HELP! 1. Wash the buckle with detergent and water, and rinse well. Allow to dry.
2. Give the buckle's surface a light sanding, just enough to key it and give the paint something to grip.
3. Spray on a coat of primer - Halford's own brand is pretty good.
Use multiple light coats, rather than one thick coat to get even coverage with no drips. Allow this to dry well.
4. Time to apply the colours. Acrylics should be fine over the primer.
5. Apply a couple of coats of Clearcoat acrylic varnish.
6. Bask in the glory of your buckley goodness.
7. Post pics. |
