| Re: The Fat Man Graphic Novel - in Production I really like the art (Looks like Aubrey Beardsley meets pop-art) and the panel layout is really nicely done, the lettering and speech bubble sizing/positioning could be a little better, certainly could be a bit more expressive.
More panels need backgrounds, the one-colour background gets old very quickly if over-used.
I'll probably check it out. |

Thanks for the feedback Mark, if a little presumptious.

I didn't mean to take the wind out of your sails or nothing, I do really like the art. The panel composition also rocks.
Just trying to be helpful mate. |

Don't know if you appreciate the economics of self publishing such a large project but to sell through a distributor / shop we have to give away 95% of the cover price. This leaves pennies for publicity- all of which we have to pay for.
After printing costs and delivery we will make about 45p per copy.
I presume that is why this will be the first large scale graphic novel series from Scotland for 20+ years.
Letting people see the preview on boards such as this is a good way to show people the quality of the work and generate some interest for direct sales through our web site.
Of course your opinions are valid and interesting, thank you for the positive feedback. Sorry for any misunderstanding.

| Re: The Fat Man Graphic Novel - in Production Yeah, I have a fair grasp of the economics involved, I could never understand how Electric Soup managed to lose money. Last Scottish graphic novel I can think of is the Bogie Man (Coincidentally similar name, probably a good omen.) and thats a good few years back.
Anyway, feel free to critique the hell out of my music, god knows it could use some improvement. |

'The Bogie Man' publishing company 'Fat Man Press' went bankrupt even though they were selling in good numbers. Electric Soup was loosing money per issue as the production costs eat into almost all the profit.
The only people who make money from graphic novels /comic books are the distributors and shops.
That's why we are encouraging people to buy direct from our web site (nearer the time of publishing) we can even add free first class postage and a set of postcards if people but direct from us - www.the-fat-man.co.uk |
