Re: cutting plastic?

Aye, you really want a decent saw and then spend ages sanding it down to give a shiny finish to the edge. Leccy band sanders give a much better finish then hand sanding unfortunately.

Also, you need to do the whole malarky with descending grades of sandpaper to give a good finish.

Re: cutting plastic?

Looks like Shrinkles to me. Starts off like an acetate, you cut a shape with scissors/a punch for holes about 3 times the size that you actually want the end product to be and then you stick it in the oven and it comes out like thick plastic. The good think about this mad stuff is you can also use permanent pens to write things on them before you heat them up and they become part of the plastic. You can get shrinkles in any art store in loads of colours.

bought some shrinkes, they're so stupidly cheap that I'd rather have a shot with that in hope it works before I start looking at investing in things like saws and drills where I'll likely do myself an injury

Shrinkles look more fun anyway

what can you use to colour in shrinkles with anyway that give such a good solid colour? They don't seem to come in anything bar white, black and pastel shades

Re: cutting plastic?

I make my jewellery from the shrinkies stuff. Use the clear sheets, ANYTHING works on them but I use projector pens coz they're good for drawing in detail. You can do other cool stuff with shrinkies, I scratched in some designs with a scalpel before baking and ended up with really nice frosted look plastic.

edit: if you can only find black sheets to work with then I've been able to use crayon eyeliner on them(i only used white though so couldn't tell you if all colours would show up well)

also, the package will say to draw 7x larger but DON'T. 3x is more accurate.

Re: cutting plastic?

Stay tuned...

Oh really?! What's the secret then? I'm a bit bored with the plastics I've been using, could do with a new challenge
