Tracey Emin exhibiton, Edinburgh 2008

http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/20...ghfestival.art taken from the Guardian article published 5th August, 2008

Tracey Emin: 20 Years is at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh, until November 9. Details: 0131-624 6200.

Anyone going to this? I'm going for part of my uni course, and if I'm being honest I don't know if I'd go otherwise. It's nice to see though that I'm not the only one that fails to "get" Tracey Emin and dare i say it Gilbert and George.

Anyone actually been yet? If so what did you think of it?

Re: Tracey Emin exhibiton, Edinborgh 2008

Haven’t made it over, but I usually find Emin’s stuff interesting at least—even if I don’t like or enjoy it, there’s usually something there to think about for a few minutes. I’m not really a fan of confessional work, but at least she has a shedload of stuff to confess in the first place.

Bit of a Gilbert & George fan though, so don’t get me started on them.

nah, I mean I find Emin 'interesting' , even if I don't find her work lacking depth a it. It's interesting in the respect that I can't imagine putting everything on public display like that. She's a bit of a mentalist anyway though. I can imagine a drink down the pub with her would be interesting.

Gilbert and George I probably wouldn't mind as much if everyone stopping ranting about how every little thing they do is groundbreaking and amazing. Perhaps part of me's just bitter i don't get paid and revered as a ledgend for filming myself getting pissed

All I know about Tracey Emin is that she's an absolute hound.

I can see what Emin is trying to do with her works, but I think that a lot of them do fall short on the message she's trying to put across.

Not that I could do any better like.

I bumped into her once, but was so pissed at the time that I literally bumped into her. Knocked her drink out of her hand and had to stagger away to procure her another one. Ooops.
