| Acrylic and water colour paints, can you mix them? Decided I would be a cheapskate this year for my mum's birthday and just paint her a picture. Needless to say I have almost bankrupted myself getting the material.
I can't get the right shade of blue with the acrylic paints I am using and I can't afford to get any more paint of a different shade, however I do have some old tubes of water colour paint lying around.
Question time now.
Can I mix acrylic and water colour paint or will I murder my painting?
I tried Google but it's refusing to give a definitive answer.

| Re: Acrylic and water colour paints, can you mix them? You get cheap paint sets in the pound shops and book shops. Just try a wee bit of each and see what happens. Ive done it beofre and it was ok but i was using kids poster paints from the early learning centre and acrylic.

| Re: Acrylic and water colour paints, can you mix them? It depends on the acrylic really. Acrylics have lots of different formulas, some are more water soluble than others. Also, acrylics dry really quickly because of the 'plastic' element to them, where water colours don't, so it dries a bit patchy. as purkle says, you'd be best off just going to poundland and buying a cheap set if you want to do a one off painting.
If you are V stuck, I could post you a wee tube of whatever colour acrylic you need, I have craploads of the wee ones. |

| Re: Acrylic and water colour paints, can you mix them? AHHH too many options!
I may just have to deal with having a slightly lilac sky in my painting.
My mother is required by law to love whatever I give her anyway.
Shall just see what happens.
Thanks anyway

| Re: Acrylic and water colour paints, can you mix them? I've mixed the two before and they dry really patchy and slowly...fine looking once it's completely dry but it was just on a card though so I'm not sure about longevity if it's for a painting.
