| Sewing machine - deal or not? This will be on sale at Lidl as of Monday. As Singer machines have been around for ages, is probably isn't too crap but - is it an ok price for what you're getting? I've not looked at sewing machines over here, but have been thinking about getting one on and off for a few months now and just happened across this advert the other day. http://www.lidl.co.uk/uk/home.nsf/pa...g_Machine.ar11 |

| Re: Sewing machine - deal or not? it's a good price for that machine (same one is £107 in Argos). I don't think you'll get anything significantly cheaper unless you go for a second hand one. The one i have (no idea what brand it is) i got 7 years ago off eBay for £40 but as always, eBay can be a wee bit of a gamble. I say go for it

| Re: Sewing machine - deal or not? Depends what you're after. I'd say go for it as it's a pretty good deal for a new sewing machine, especially a Singer. But if you're just looking for something cheap and basic and don't need too many functions, you can also get a sewing machine from John Lewis for just under £50. |

| Re: Sewing machine - deal or not? Hmmm...will have a look at it next week so I can see it in person. I suppose for now I don't need anything with too many bells and whistles, but I did like the fact that it could handle heavier fabrics. And that it was a Singer - my mum's was probably a good 20 years old when she was sewing my sister and I clothes, and I was using it 15-20 years after *that* to make things for myself.
Payday isn't until Tuesday so I can't do anything before then anyway. Cheers for the tips too. I don't know why I never think of John Lewis for household electrics; I suppose I just assume it's going to be expensive there. |

| Re: Sewing machine - deal or not? John Lewis is actually one of the best places for haberdashery (fabulous word!) stuff and the folk there are very very helpful!

They go a bit raj if you dare to venture behind the counter. |
