| Yeah... there are places in the world where graffiti is stunning... and that's when I'd say it's art. It's all to do with style/content/location, I'd say... if there's some real talent on display up there, and it's actually saying something, and it's in the right place, I'm all for it - especially on a large scale.
Unfortunately, most of the time here it's just cheap vandalism... nothing artistic about it, just some random scribbles on walls. And it's best kept for the right places... Glasgow, for example, has a lot of amazing old historical buildings, day-glo paint over them would just be an insult.
I'm not too clued in on the subject, never really "tagged" in my life (and I'd be shit at it anyway)... but I do think graffiti can be serious art... there's some amazing talent on them there walls.
The problem will always be though, who decides what's art and who decides what's vandalism...? |

| Tagging is always vandalism, in my opinion.
Art on walls is another matter - murals, graf, whatever.
Graf has become shorthand for a particular style (or range of styles).
Edinburgh seems to have better graf guys than Glasgow does, by far. And, erm... why are they always guys?
I guess my final say on the subject is...
Check out my buddy Brian's site. He's the best graf writer around Scotland these days. www.akaelph.com
More on his next (and first) exhibition at http://www.outoftheblue.org.uk/eexhi.shtml.

| i actually like the "mess" taggers make...it is all part and parcel of an urban environment however there is no skill or talent involved...for the most part the taggers in glasgow are all about becoming infamous, americanised everything and macho posturing...
There is a lot of good work in Glasgow if u know where to look. |

| In Edinburgh there is a lot of really good graffiti which is more of an artform than vandalism.
It would be good to see some real art being graffited onto walls instead of tags and slogans.
