| I think there's problems with GSA - but then I'm a hyper-critical bastard.
There seems to be a sort of traditionalism and closed-mindedness to many subjects at the place. The school itself is seen as more important that the individual students. There is a recognisable 'school style' - how can that be a natural thing with new students passing through each year and staff changing regularly? GSA tends to accept potential students partly on the grounds of whether they fit into the school style and way of thinking rather than wholly on merit.
It's interesting, but not something I see as a good approach.
I'm also wary of any art school which groups students into specific media - having seperate courses for painting, sculpture, etc. That's boxing people in - I believe you should train to be an artist or designer or whatever, not to work in one specific medium. Ideas are what's important, not technique. Otherwise you're just learning skills rather than thinking about why you should use them.
Just my opinion, not solid fact.
