| er i just had ma matriculation today.
it took a lot of work and the interview you just need to know your stuff inside out and do a bit of research on contemporary work.
tho mines was for Enviromental Art so it might be different but i just tryed to experiment as much as i could without overworking it.

| I was wanting to go to Glasgow school of art but now since i moved house i'm planning to go to Dundee school of art (Duncan of joderstone) and then do a degree at Aberty Uni in Dundee
Just now i attend Angus college studying art they have good art departments which is fairly good for me and will get me into the uni and art school i want to get into (Angus college is linked to Dundee school of art) I heard that many people left Angus college to go to this gd art school in england and two or more of them got into Glasgow school of art |

It's very hard work and you really need to be self motivated cause the tutors do tend to just let you get on with it yourself. There can be a lot of cliquiness but I've met some of my best friends there. |

| when I got in the actual qualifications were 3 C's at higher level but I think they want to see a lot of self motivated commitment like extra classes, life drawing, photography etc would be useful. It does really depend on what department you are wanting to go into.
There is a lot of competition but don't let it worry you, if you don't get in from school i think a portfolio class for a year is a great idea so you can learn lots of skills and have more confidence and it shows you are really interested in going to art school.
the visual art studios was the class I took I think it has moved to the Tramway now, it was really good fun and it left time to have a part time job or just lots of time to get on with your work, it was hard work but worth it!

| Yeah, when I applied you had to have 3 highers at C grade and they had to include art and english.... I think.
I went straight from school but there was a lot of folk I knew who had came from a portfolio course, I think that route prepares you better. |

| I'm applying for it this year.
The grades depend on what you want to do, if you want to do fine art + all the specialities it's 3 Cs, including English - you don't need art, I just think it helps. Same grades for design, cept product design (for which I'm applying) which is ABB or BBBB or something, for that you need a language as well. Architecture is even higher grades which have to include english and maths.. I think.
You need a portfolio to enter almost every course I think. Apparently the best wya to do it is through a full-time portfolio course, however, although I have the grades to get in I wanna keep my options open seeing as it's 1 in 4 people who get accepted.. so I'm going a full day + a 2 hour class of portfolio prep at college every week, as well as 2 hours every saturday moring at the GSA.
Basically, to get in, you have to be shit hot at whatever you wanna do.
I don't have much of a clue about the interviews though.. mebbe someone could tell meeeee? |

| I would like to do fine art painting and printmaking (BA hons).
Thanks for everyone's help btw.
I do have another question though.........Would doing an advanced higher in art increase your chances of getting in or would doing a portfolio course be a better option?

| i needed four Cs this year.
oh and ta Primofizz.
id say doin adv.h would be good - its pretty much just like a portfolio course and its free, if you dont get in you can always go for a course afterwards but you cant really go for adv.h again...

| Is advanced higher kinda like SYS? I did higher art in fifth year but they didn't do SYS art at my school so I used 6th year as a kind of portfolio course. Seemed to do the trick and they let me in.
A lot of my friends did SYS art and just used that for their portfolio, so whatever you think you'd enjoy the most! |

| the interview to get in is really nerve racking but please just try to relax, you will be interviewed by 2 tutors that teach 1st year or are from your department. They will go through your portfolio and discuss a few pieces out of it, ie do you think this work is a final piece or would you do more work on it?
If you were putting it in an exhibition how would you display it? That kind of thing. I think that is why I got so much from the portfolio class because the tutors went through all those kind of things with you, but if you have a decent art teacher - which I didn't- you should kind of go through of these things.
they may also ask what exhibitions you have been to lately so try and go every month or so to a range of work that you can chat about with them. Don't panik though I was so nervious I forgot who Damian Hurst was I can laugh now but it was V. embarrasing at the time!
