Monday Morning. Another Story...

Heres the latest story from me. I finished it tonight. and thought i'd post it up for you viewing

Monday Morning.

Jack sat hunched painfully over the table at the back of the bar. Cradling his ribs with his left hand he reached for his glass and took a long swig, “Barkeep!” he yelled as he held his, now empty glass over his head. The barman looked at him with a fiery gaze. Then picked up the bottle of Jack-D and walked over to the table. He filled the glass then returned to his stance over at the bar.
The pub was empty, it always was but right now there were less people around than usual. There had been a shooting outside the bar the night before and people seemed scared to enter the bar now. Two drunken, wannabe Gangsters had gotten into a fight over a game of pool and when one left the other followed and shot him. That sort of thing was bad for business.
Jack drowned himself in the glass of J-D then got up from the table and staggered out the door onto the street. Bouncing from wall to wall he eventually reached his flat. He fell in and landed on hi bed.

“BEEP, BEEP! BEEP, BEEP!”
His alarmed screamed in his left ear. “AARGH!” he groaned as he rolled over and picked up the alarm clock. Then he glanced at the digits. 12:00. “SHIT!” he shouted in realisation that he had slept way too long. He threw the alarm clock against the wall to shut it up then quickly jumped out of bed and got dressed.

He ran to the train station and waited for the 12:26 train, which was due any second. Sure enough it came speeding down the track. He jumped on and took a seat. After a few minutes he got bored of staring at the other people in the carriage, such as the man beside him who was flicking through the sports pages of today’s paper or the woman sitting across the aisle who was staring blankly out the window at the houses speeding past outside. He pulled a book out of his bag and began t read the first chapter. The book was entitled, “Dangerous Youth.”
The train stopped at the next station but no one got on. At least, they didn’t get on THIS carriage. The train pulled away from the station and slowly began to accelerate.

MEENWHILE. Paul, Steve And Gill were playing a small game of football in the car park of the local Safeway.
“Cummin’ doon the park?”
“Aye, Good idea Paul” replied Steve
“Ah canny be arsed though” said Gill
“How? Are yi a shitebag? Buck buck buck CHICKAN!!!”
“Shut it Paul. Am no a chicken. Ah just don’t want ti cross the railway. That’s aw”
“CHIKAN!!”
“Awright all go” said Gill reluctantly

Back on the train Jack was still reading his book, The guy next to him was still reading the sports pages and the woman across the aisle was still staring out the window. The driver sat in his compartment staring boldly out the window. As if he was proud to be sitting on his arse pulling leavers all day long.

Gill approached the tall wire mesh fence and pulled up the corner of it. She took a look up and down the tracks to make sure there were no trains coming and ran across.
“Told yi ah wisny a shitebag!” she shouted back across the tracks to her friends.

The train driver slowly accelerated down the track. The train was now reaching about 50 miles per hour. The driver took one long gaze down the track to make sure nothing was on the lines and pushed the lever forward again to speed the train up a little more.
Gill Stood Waiting for her friends to join her on the other side of the track. Paul approached next. As he lifted the flap on the fence and stepped through he also looked up and down the track. Once again nothing was coming or going so he ran across safely.
“come oan Steve it’s your turn next!” Paul shouted to Steve.
“AYE! C’moan!” Agreed Gill.
“Aye am commin’” insisted Steve.
Steve slowly approached the fence…

The train was now almost at maximum speed, rushing down the line. The woman who was staring out of the window had now turned to glancing through the entertainment page of a two day old, discarded newspaper.

“YES!” murmured the man leafing through the sports pages under his breath as he noticed that his team were at the top of the football league by 7 points.

Jack still sat, reading his book waiting for the train to reach the next stop, which would be his. Then he’d have to head off to work. Which he was very much, dreading.

The train driver glanced over the cockpit once again to insure that there was nothing on the track. Once he was satisfied with what he is seeing he looked down at his watch. He was due at the next stop in 5 minutes.

When he looked back up he was horrified to see Steve standing right in the middle of the tracks. He quickly sounded the horn then pulled the emergency break.

The train began to skid. Sparks flew in all directions from the locked up wheels grinding against the tracks.
Steve was frozen in place, he had no idea what to do and the train was approaching fast.
“GET OFF THE TRACK STEVE!!!” screamed Gill.
Steve woke up from his trance and jumped back just as the front of the train glanced his body. He had a few broken bones be he’d be ok.

Then the second carriage of the train skipped the rails and began to jack knife pulling the third carriage off with it.

As the train began to skid Jack grabbed hold of the metal bar in front of him. The man beside him jumped out of his seat with the force of the breaks and hit his head on the internal window beside the train doors smashing a huge hole in the window and leaving him bleeding frantically from the head. Once the train had slowed a little jack climbed half under the seat he had been sitting on and grabbed hold of the support bars on the back.

The train began to jack knife and the woman who had been sitting across from him was now standing up against the wall her skin had now gone from dark tanned to very pale white. Her hands had gone purple from gripping The Luggage rack above her head.

Outside Steve stood watching his life come to a slow end as the jack-knifed carriages approached him. He contemplated running but there wasn’t time. He just stood and waited.
Gill and Paul Fell to the ground crying with terror at the site they were about to witness.

Jack Stuck his head out slightly from under the seat just in time to see the limp body of the body of the teenager explode through the window next to the young woman and sending blood raining over the two of them. The train then came to a halt a few hundred yards further down the track and there was a crackle from the intercom. All the surviving passengers stared lankly at the speaker above the door waiting for it to speak to them but there was nothing. Jack climbed out from under the seat and checked the pulse of the man who had been sitting beside him… He was dead. He then hugged the young woman who was almost scared to death and comforted her a little.

Then there was another crackle. This time the driver spoke.
“ATTENTION!!! ATTENTION!!! THIS IS A WARNING!!! TO ALL PASSENGERS!!! THERE IS A TRAIN DUE TO REACH THIS POINT IN 2 MINUTES AND 32 SECONDS!!!! GET OFF THE TRAIN THROUGH ANY WAY POSSIBLE!!! I REAPEAT THERE IS A TRAIN DUE TO REACH THIS POINT IN 2 MINUTES AND 27 SECONDS!!! GET OFF THE TRAIN AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE!!!”
Then there was a further crackle, then silence.

Jack looked around to see that he and the young women were the only two people still alive in the carriage. The other passengers had all been crushed or smashed and were now dead.

Next he approached the doors of the carriage and tried to pull then open but it was impossible. Then he realised that the best way to get out would be through a broken window but the only broken window on the carriage was the one, which the boy had crashed through and the wall of a tunnel now blocked it. He tried pulling support bars from various areas in the carriage but none of them would budge.

He started to cry as he realised that he was going to die. *CRACKLE!” The intercom crackled again. “YOU NOW HAVE ONLY 1 MINUTE AND 1 SECOND LEFT TO GET OFF THE TRAIN!!! IF ANYONE OIS STILL ALIVE, PLEASE!!! GET OFF THE TRAIN!!!”
Jack took one last look around then swallowed the terrible tasting saliva in his mouth. He picked up the body of the youth and used the kid’s arm to break one of the windows.

Then he walked to the young woman and said, “Come on, you gotta get out of here.”
“What about you?” she replied.
“I’ll be right behind you, I promise,” he said
With that, they approached the now broken window and he helped her out. Once she was completely out of the train he began to climb out himself. When he was almost out he heard someone ask for help.
“Who said that?” he asked.
“H, h, help m, me!? Please”
He climbed back and looked around the bodies.
The train was now in sight. It was coming fast and due to their train being in the tunnel it wasn’t visible from the other train.

“I’m sorry” Said Jack as he climbed out of the carriage. And began to run towards the end of the tunnel. When he reached the open air he grabbed the young lady and jumped behind a small structure at the trackside.

At that exact second There was a HUGE explosion inside the tunnel causing a massive cloud of fire to blow down the tunnel and out in to the open like a bullet in a gun barrel. At the front end of the fire was a massive amount of scrap metal from the two trains that had collided inside the tunnel. Jack got up and walked to the mouth of the tunnel, as he glanced inside he noticed sparks flying then he realised that the second train was still moving and was coming straight for him.

He began to run but he wasn’t fast enough. The train came shooting out of the tunnel at around 30 miles per hour and a piece of torn metal struck Jack in the centre of his back smashing his rib cage and tearing right through him. When the train finally came to a stop Jack was still alive although speared through the chest on a piece of discarded metal. As he hung choking on his own blood, the world around him growing faint, his limbs becoming heavier and heavier a young woman approached him and said. “I’ll always remember you”
She proceeded to kiss his forehead then placed hand palm gently on his cheek.

Jack felt comfort in this gesture and with the last ounce of energy left in his body he forced a smile through the pain. Suddenly his body fell limp and his head hung low. His hair blowing in the wind and his limbs swinging from the lost momentum of the train he was dead. The woman ran her fingers over his eyes and closed his eyelids.

once again tell me what you think
