poem: they didn't

I wanted them to laugh today,
they didn't.
I thought that they would leave,
they didn't
I said things I shouldn't.
Things I wouldn't. Why?

I wanted to be friends today,
they didn't.
I thought they would forgive,
they didn't.
I cried, but I wouldn't.
I couldn't. Why?

I found that I did understand.
They didn't.
I found my failure wasn't planned.
They didn't.
They cared; they just didn't show it,
or even know it.
