Try there. Should tell you the software needed and how to go about it.
I know this has nothing to do with film making but maybe one of you guys will know this.
I just want to know how to make it so .avi or .mpg files can be watched on a typical home DVD Player. I don't have one myself so I can't test it but I heard that you can't just burn them like normal files and they will play.
Thanks for any help
Oh and just another thing I was wondering about. How fast would a top class film move? I mean as in cinema quality digital? I am studying computing and was looking at Wireless yesterday and the fastest Wireless is 11mbps. Is this fast enough to stream movies?
Cheers

"Call Me Snake."
I do lot of converting best progs found so far, are ulead dvd moviefactory, dvd santa and winavi.
Also the link above give you's guides to these programs as thats where found them.
Nero has a program called Vision Express.
It's pretty good at converting and burning .avi files and suchlike to dvd/vcd/svcd.
The current, most widely used, Wireless standard (technically known as IEEE 802.11g) speed is 54mbps although the new standard (IEEE 802.11n) of 108mbps is being introduced at the moment.Originally Posted by Run_Lola_Run

Hey again. Is there such a thing as a free dvd decoder/player for the computer?
I've had a look and can't see anything apart from trials which offer one minute or so playback

Microsoft are the masters of sarcasm.
Windows Media Player 10 will play dvds for sure but only if you have dvd playing software installed![]()

Ah cool! Well that VCL player seems to do the trick although another problem seems to have occured.Originally Posted by Stew

I used DVD Santa to do it and didn't get any errors. There are two folders on the dvd. One is Audio TS and on is Video TS.
Anyone think why they might be so out of sync?

Hmm, out of sync.. sounds like some sort of error.. can't think.. too drunk.. buffer underflow/overflow turned on or off, off the top of my head?Originally Posted by Run_Lola_Run

There are no digital cinemas in the UK yet - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4297865.stm - so I don't know how you could decide what was 'cinema digital quality'.Originally Posted by Run_Lola_Run
If you projected a DVD image onto a cinema size screen it would look awful, since film has a much higher resolution.
A typical DVD has an average bit rate of about 5Mbps but it can go up to 6 or 7Mbps on fast action scenes. Even though 802.11b is supposed to go up to about 11Mbps, in reality it is much less due to WEP encryption, interference, network overhead, etc.
You could probably stream DVD quality over 802.11g without any problems.
I would estimate digital cinema would need 10 to 100 times as much bandwidth as DVD.
