UKeasily can't pay their bills

Seems UKeasily is going under. The servers have been down for the last three days and they promised they'd be back in 24-48 hours. Might not sound like much but add in its impossible to contact them in any way, shape or form as well as the building where their servers are based is preparing to power down anything owned by UKeasily and you can see where things are going with them.

Just pissed off my blog was hosted via a reseller on them

It sounds like what I (and a few other folk on here) went through a few years ago with Rapidhoster. Sucks.

Yup went through it with rapidhoster as well.

UKeasily is claiming to have 60% of their servers back up and running but noone anywhere has proof of this.

Not recent...

My PC was rebuilt recently and I lost the backups I had then. Already lost one forum db because of that.

I've been meaning to move my site over to my own server for the last month thats got chron jobs set up for backups and just never got round to it. Hard lesson to learn.

What is it with hosting companies? This sort of thing happens a lot and I don't feel that there's much in place to secure customers data.

Apparently the company that owned the servers were opening up IP addresses without UKeasily's consent to allow folk access to their data for moving to other hosting companies. The legalities of that are all a bit dubious though and UKeasily have got lawyers involved so that won't be happening again

The legalities of that aren't particularly dubious at all if the servers don't belong to UKE (which they don't appear to).

Cheap hosting deals are usually (with some exceptions) too good to be true long-term.

Meant to add that I'd completely forgotten that I had a WP plugin that sync'd my blog up with my LJ account so I do actually have a backup but not in the traditional sense of the word

hostings dead and aint coming back but I've finally managed to get my domains back under my control so I can transfer them over to my hosting and get the sites back up and running.
